Hi
i have installed a test lab with tsm server 6.4.3 just to try the deduplication feature.
unfortunately i realize that the deduplication is per storage pool and not global, so if you migrate data from one storage pool to another you basically loose all the benefits.
example
a tsm client with client source deduplication writes to pool1 a 10g file. If you then migrate this file to pool2 the next time the backup will run for the same file it will again send 10g of data. When you migrate again the deduplication will occur but you have lost all the benefits of source dedup
so why migrate then?
because you may also need to use target base dedup and you need the migration process to remove the dedup data
any idea?
