I'm looking for some help, please.
TSM Server Version: 6.3.4.0
TSM Client Version on affected node: 6.3.0.00
Client Node OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard (32-bit)
I’m having trouble getting TSM to back up a particular file (a log file that is in constant use and, therefore, “changes during processing”).
Some time ago, I created a new Management Class (LOGFILES_MGM) for the purpose of handling such files. Rather than our standard MC which, for:
“If a file is being modified during backup, the program should do the following” specifies:
“Retry, and back up the file if the file is no longer being modified”
the new MC is set to:
“Retry, and back up the file on the last attempt even if the file is still being modified”.
Retry attempts are set to 3 so, after the file has changed twice while TSM has been trying to back it up TSM should, on the third attempt, back up a ‘fuzzy’ copy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.
I have used this strategy on many other nodes in various situations and it has always done the trick. However, in this case, TSM continues to flag the file as “failed” and “object is in use by another process”.
The relevant entry from the node’s DSM.OPT file reads as follows:
INCLUDE "C:\Program Files\Faronics\Deep Freeze 7 Enterprise\*.log" LOGFILES_MGM
The error that appears in DSMERROR.LOG reads as follows:
25-11-2013 04:52:31 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\rontgen\c$\Program Files\Faronics\Deep Freeze 7 Enterprise\127.0.0.1_7725_EntConsole.log' failed
25-11-2013 04:52:31 ANS4987E Error processing '\\rontgen\c$\Program Files\Faronics\Deep Freeze 7 Enterprise\127.0.0.1_7725_EntConsole.log': the object is in use by another process
25-11-2013 04:52:33 ANS1802E Incremental backup of '\\rontgen\c$' finished with 1 failure
