TSM v5.5.5.0 to new hardware

Hi all,

We need to move an existing TSM v5.5.5.0 instance from its current Windows 2003 Std SP2 (x32) hardware platform to a new server platform so we can run the upgrade to v6.2 or, preferably, v6.3.

I have read through the IBM notes on how to move v5.5 to new hardware ( http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docvie...id=swg21254433 ) but it doesn't mention anything specific about the host OS. In order to move the existing instance would I need to use the same host OS (Win 2k3 std. SP2 x32) for the purpose of the move or could I install Windows 2008 Std. x64 or R2. IBM documentation states: 'Windows Server 2008 R2 support starts with TSM V5.5.4' and I see that I would need Windows 2008 x64 or R2 as a minimum for upgrade to >TSM v6.3.

Also, our backup sizes have changed so the new host server will utilise smaller disk pools. Would i need to delete the disk pools (once empty) on the existing server before running a db backup so the new server does not expect the same disk pool resource? We have a disk-pool copy of directories (also backed up to tape copy pool). Would it be possible to move this disk pool volume over to the new server as a file or would i have to recreate this from the copy pool?

I would like to use 'Method B' for the migration and it mentions copying over the db and log files from the existing server to the same location on the new server. Would this be a straight Windows file copy process?

Finally, it mentions that 'The tape device names may not be the same on the new machine'. Would I need to amend the devcnfg.out file before trying to start the server1 instance on the new machine or would it be sufficient to delete drive, library and path information and set up manually with new names (and presumably new lb and mt definitions) once the new server instance is started?

Our current db is appx. 28gb. Drives are SCSI attached and the library is FC.

If anyone has any advice/info or a definitive step-by-step guide this would be great.

Thanks.
