Greetings All,
I am sure I am over analyzing the situation but I would like input from fellow experts.
I know Migration has the high and low threshold that can be set and will migrate (move) data to the "next" storage pool. In our environment we have our primary pool on disk (backuppool) and the next pool is tape (ltopool)
I will try to keep this short and logical so here are my questions and observations.
I have an admin schedule that does a backup of the ltopool to our copy_off pool (tapes stored offsite). I assume since TSM is incremental forever this applies to storage pool backups also, correct? The reason I ask is because I had setup a sched/script to backup the primary storage pool (backuppool) directly to the tape stgpool (copy_off) and it checked out 45 tapes. This would seem like a 'full' backup instead of an 'incremental' backup, that make sense?
So I am trying to determine the best way to ensure my data is protected with as many copies (stgpool) as possible. Here is what I am thinking:
1. Daily migration from disk (backuppool) to tape (ltopool)
2. Backup ltopool (tape) to copy_off (tape) pool
or do I need to
1. Backup (disk pool) to ltopool (tape)
2. Backup ltopool (tape) to copy_off (tape) pool
I want to use as few tapes as possible and not have to send 40+ tapes off site every day.
Thanks
