tapeutil and atape 12+

We are currently way behind on Atape. As it stands now, I use "tapeutil" extensively in my scripts. I realize that in newer versions of Atape, tapeutil is bundled with ITDT.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to call "tapeutil" directly, or is it required that you access it via ITDT? If so, is this scriptable, or does it force interaction?

If there is any difference, script samples would be appreciated.
