Advice in deduping a storage pool

I need an advise in deduping a storage pool.

We are using VTL as primary storage pool and copy storage pool is tapes.

Deduplication is a feature of VTL and dedupe the data automatically.

Now is there any real need of updating my primary storage pool to dedupe the data.
