label libvol problem

When we want to label tapes in a logical library containing J1A-Drives and these tapes have been labeled before by E05-Drives, we get the following error messages:

Can the message "ANR9014E Volume UNKNOWN is incompatible with drive" be ignored since the label command is successful in the end or should we take corrective action? Can anybody help us?

DAtabase Reorg

HI, I have a question regarding database reorganisation option in database.
earlier my data base has reorganisation daily, but today i see that it has been 4 days for last database reorganision.
From last 4 days there is no database reorganisation.
Can any one here please tell me the about database reorganisation.
if it doesnt taken place then does it effect performance of server.
To make database reorganisation what steps should i have to do.

ANS1329S Server out of data storage space, but scratch value did not reach maximum

Hello,
I took over the administration of the server group. The backup system is built on a TSM, which I had never seen before.
There is a syslog server to which logs are sent from other servers / hosts and IronPort.
This syslog server in the file dsmerror.log began to appear message that no free space.


Code:
08/05/14  02:00:06 ANS1329S Server out of data storage space
08/05/14  02:00:06 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SCH_SYSLOG1_IRON' failed.  Return code = 12.

08/05/14  03:00:06 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SCH_SYSLOG1_HOSTS' failed.  Return code = 12.
But when I looked at storagepool "SYSLOG", so there are about 10 tapes and 2 of them are in the stage of "Filling" and to "Pct util" have around 47%


Where there has been a full disk space?
When I used google for this error, so I checked the values
"Maximum Scratch Volumes Allowed" and I have a value of 999
and
"Number of Scratch Volumes Used: 2"


All other information is happy to provide just need to tell me how to get them.

Dedup Pool Issues

Afternoon all,

I am having issues with TSM v7.1 system with dedup stg pool. That seems to be always filling up.

When I have investigated the issue we have 25TB of space but the clients only have 2.3TB of data backed up.

I have reduced the copy versions down to 1 ver exists and no deleted. Ran expire inv manually and no data expired.

It seems that the system has factor over 10 to 1 of data that I know nothing about.

Tried running reclaim stg on the pool and no luck there either.

Any ideas or I am just missing something?

dsmserv high memory usage

Hi there,

since two weeks I have some trouble with the dsmserv process on our TSM Server V6.3.4. The server is an IBM P7 with 16 GB RAM and in the middle of the night the process takes the whole phy. memory and about 30 GB paging space. Last weak unix killed the process, because of not enough paging space. So we raised the paging space to 50 GB. Is there a simple way to say, push the phy. RAM, to solve the problem? How can I analyse, how many RAM I minimum needed for such an TSM?

Can 3.7 TB fit into one LTO4?

Hello,

We just started doing NDMP backups from an EqualLogic NAS to our TSM 6.3.4.300 box. I noticed that the last full backup for this particular path is 3.75 TB total and it backed up successfully over a 12 hour period HOWEVER we noticed that TSM did only one LTO4 tape mount for the whole backup. Is this possible?

I am working on setting up a test restore but I am a little confused how we could have fit that entire full backup into one lto4 tape unless there is some mega compression going on.

The device type is LTO, format is DRIVE.

Expiring 1.2 billion objects

So my v6.3 Windows TSM server is expiring over one billion objects today and I see it automagically kick off a database backup because...

Number of mount points during reclamation

Hi,
This is TSM version 7.1 on Linux.
I am using file device type for my primary stgpool. I set the mount limit to 20 on the devtype.
During reclamation, 16 mount points where used by the reclamation process. Backup sessions seemed to wait, due to unavailable mount points.
I cancelled the reclamation process, and this freed up the 16 mount points.
The reclaimprocess=1 on the stgpool. I expected 2 mount points to be used.
Is something fishy ?

I have storage pools:

FSDISK -DISK
FSTAPE -LTO
DSCOPY -LTO

How to force to copy from "FSDISK" to "FSTAPE" and after duplicate data from "FSTAPE" to "DSCOPY", after this remove LTO for offsite.

Restoring TSM Database from DR Snapshot Backup Issues

I'm testing our DR process for Tivoli 7.1. I've been able to successfully restore my database from a full backup copy (DBB) which had been saved to my DBDUMP device class, which is on disk. I now want to perform the restore from my DB snapshot (DBS), which lives on LTO6 tape. After running DSMSERV to remove the existing database instance, I issue DSMSERV -i xxxxx RESTORE DB SOURCE=DBS. Now keep in mind, I have the DBS tape retrieved from the off-site vault location and loaded into the new tape library. DSMSERV spits out the following:

How do I instruct DSMSERV where to find the tape? I'm not able to perform a volume check-in like I would do to restore a storage pool because I don't have a database yet. The log demonstrates that DSMSERV wants tape B00019L6 and found it loaded into tape drive RMT2, moved it to an open element slot, then says it can't find the tape. No luck finding any other documentation to explain this. Any assistance is most appreciated.

Force destroyed volumes back to an online/readonly state????

Greetings Cohorts!

We have a couple volumes that errored out and are now marked destroyed. The 38 other volumes on the same mount point are fine. Anyway after a week working with IBM support they say the only way to recover the data on those volumes is to restore them from the copy pool. That will probably work fine but, we would have to bring back literally every single tape from iron mountain to do the restore and at around 500 lto4 tapes that's a lot of time and money to insert, check in, update, etc... to restore a couple 200 gig disk volumes. I've repeatedly asked support if there is any way at all to force the volumes back into a readonly/online state so we can do a move data on them. We are willing to take whatever risk that may incur. Then we could clean up with restores of any data that is actually corrupted. The answer continues to be no there is no way. I really find it hard to believe there is no switch or cli trick to force the volumes back online temporarily. Anyone out here that can confirm or deny?

TSM Monitoring & reporting installation fails

Hi all,

I recently installed the Administration Center version 6.3.4.000 in windows, now I want to install in the same machine windows 2008 R2 64bits The TSM Monitoring & reporting, but I face up with the same error message each time after I made some modifications, first with the prereqcheck script ( Requirement check: Failed - The Windows user ID that you use when installing must be a local ID with Administrator privileges, and cannot be a domain ID. Environment settings: Failed) then with the install script (TSM environment check
the installer cannot run on your configuration i will now quit
the windows user ID that you use when installing must be a local ID with administrator privilegies
)
I tried to make the instllation with the administrator user, then I added a new local user tsmmonitor with the administrator privileges and I retry again, but I got the same error :confused:,

any suggestions ?

Hello All,

I have a tsm server connected to a TS3200 library with two drives. recently i deployed ibm sklm 2.5 to encrypt tape cartridge i noticed that when i added a new volume to a tape storage pool the volume appeared encrypted in ts3200 GUI. But the old cartridge where there was datas before i setup sklm still stay NOT ENCRYPTED.
is this normal ?
what can i do to encrypt them ?

I need to order more tapes for our Tivoli Storage Manager System. Is there a script or command I can use to get a list of the onsite and offsite listing of tapes currently being used by Tivoli Storage Manager 5.5 ? This is on a Windows Server by the way.

Any difference between migration and bkup stg pool?

Here's what we USED TO DO (back in the DAY when we had a smaller environment and seemingly more time!)... bkup stgpool from primary (disk) to copy (off-site tapes), then bkup stgpool from copy (on-site tapes). then db backup, then migrate data off from primary (disk) to primary (disk). but that was taking too long. So now, to save time and unnecessary (i think) steps, I'm migrating data off from primary (disk) to primary (on-site tapes) then copy stgpool (off-site tapes). and Done! hopefully! anyone see any real difference in doing a bkup stgpool vs a migration? obviously the migrations clears-out the diskpool, but other than that, is there any real difference 'under the covers' in TSM?

TSM 6.3 DB: Delete the new db diretories after extend dbspace

Hi

My TSM DB utilization has reached 90% of usage. I have ran extend dbspace for 2 new location (db3 and db4).
The thing is I just noticed that I created a TEIR 3 volume for the new db space instead of TEIR 1. So anybody know how to remove the new created db vol location?

Hello,

I`ve reinstalled OS for my application server from Centos 6.5 to Oracle Linux 6.5.
Then I installed TSM client 6.3.00 (the same version as before and TSM server version also the same - Version 6, Release 3, Level 4.0 )
When I tried to restore some files I recieved errors:
