Why is my filespace of type FAT

$
0
0
I am backing up 30 file shares that are on two netapp filers.
all ok for 28 shares.
But for two shares, the get registered as type of FAT in the table FILESPACES, the rest are of type NTFS.
I don't like this, it prevents the snapdif option from working.
But I cannot see any differences with those two shares.
Restarted the backup after removing the filespace produces same result.

Bizarre...

Hello,

Can anybody please tell me what is the best option to take MYSql backup through TSM?

I did my search and i end up with one of the below options:

- Zamanda
- repostor
- take Sql dumps and then take backup of the dumps with normal TSM client.

Which one is the best and why?

Thanks,

Hello,
I have just upgraded the TSM server from v 5.4.5 to .5.5.5. After successful upgrade for Server found errors reported in upgrading the Admin Center. We have checked the error.log file but could not found the reason what is it trying to indicate.

OS of the server is Windows 2003 x32 Standard edition.

hello,

I'm still learning TSM Operation and i have to change SAN devices our environment and so backuppool to TSM side. But i can't be sure the some TSM steps. I wrote my planned to do list. Please check is everything is ok. I can't understad completely for first backup operation.

I guess i have to perform the following steps;

1- create a storae pool
define stgpool backuppool DISK

2- Define volume
define volume backuppool d:\bk1.dsm

3- Define policy domain
define domain file desc="Domain for backup of files" backretention=360

4- Define policyset
define policyset FILE NORMAL desc="The policy for normal requirement"

5- Define Management Class
define mgmtclass FILE NORMAL DAILY desc="Daily Management Class"
assign defmgmtclass FILE NORMAL DAILY

6- Define backup/archive copy group.
define copygroup FILE NORMAL DAILY standard type=backup destbackuppool verexist=3 retextra=30 verd=1 reto=360

7-validate and activate policyset and policy
validate policyset FILE NORMAL
ACTIVATE policyset FILE NORMAL

8- Update client domain
updatenode TSMCLIENT1 domain=FILE

9- Install tsm client on the target server.

When attempting to back up the data to the TSM server. I can see that the policy is clearly defined and the syntax is correct. I've had this ticket open with IBM for several weeks now with no progress. Anyone seen this?

TDP for VMware Restore Question

$

I have recently taken over a TSM environment, and was recently requested to do a full VM restore. I am using the TDP for VMware plugin and the restore has failed a couple of times so far. I went back and looked at the backup schedule and it looks like there was only 1 full backup taken about 5 months ago and just incremental taken since then. The VM in question is a thick provisioned VM with only 100GBs of space. The last time I tried the restore it failed after processing over 500GBs. I had assumed that this was running an incremental forever and in doing so only needs the last backup that was requested. Is this the case or does TDP have to process all of the backups beginning at the full from 5 months ago?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rentention policy for VMware full VM backup NOT using TSM for VE

Hi, I need some clarification as to why my TSM Full VM backup of deleted VM are not expiring.

TSM server: 6.3.4
OS: Windows 2008r2 x64
BA client: 6.4.1
Vmware VM: ESXi 5.5

We're using BA Client Full VM backup done weekly (we do not have the license for TSMVE)

Here is my retention settings:

Policy Domain Name: STANDARD
Policy Set Name: ACTIVE
Mgmt Class Name: STANDARD
Copy Group Name: STANDARD
Copy Group Type: Backup
Versions Data Exists: 2
Versions Data Deleted: 1
Retain Extra Versions: 30
Retain Only Version: 30
Copy Mode: Modified
Copy Serialization: Shared Static
Copy Frequency: 0
Copy Destination: TAPEPOOL
Table of Contents (TOC) Destination:
Last Update by (administrator): ************
Last Update Date/Time: 06/12/2014 08:50:32
Managing profile:
Changes Pending: No

My understanding is that it should retain 1 version of the deleted VM (Version data delete=1) for 30 days (Retain Only Version=30) but when I look in my BA client GUI, I can still do a restore of a deleted VM that was last backed up on 06/28/2014. I run Full vm backup weekly. I see from the restore window that the Mgmt Class of that VM is: Standard. Which is the same of all my other VM. The retention is working good for active VM, I can restore 2 version of the VM that are still present.

If anyone can help shed some light on this for me it would be really appreciated.

Hi,
We have few windows & UNiX servers, where there names have been changed.
As the Infra team have changed the naming convention for the servers. As i am aware that after changing the server name when we
Q Se from client its TCP/IP name will be updated in the node of TSM server.
But if the TCP/IP name or IP has changed do i have to make any changes to have backup.
as Bckup is failing now.

Tape not removed

Hi,
After running move drmedia in the TSM server, it moves the tapes from mountable to vault state and remove the tapes from library. But one of my tape is moved from mountable to vault state but it is not ejected from library.
when i manually tried to run checkout tape forcefully, it is saying that tape is not present in library.
But as per my knowledge tape is in the library, now i cant move the tape to different state because when the tape is vault we are not entitled to change the state of Tape as per DRM rules.
So can you please tell me what should i do to eject this tape from library.
Thanks

Using a autocopy pool with one drive

My first post here. I'm newish to TSM administration, taking over for our former admin. Though I did just complete the 7.1 setup and admin course. funnily enough, the systems I'm administering are all 6.3.x.

My issue is thus: We have two remote sites with their own TSM servers and single drive libraries. Site 1 was configured and installed by our previous administrator at version 6.3.3 and does the following: Every day at midnight it migrates the smallish primary diskpool to a tape primary and a copy pool. It does this with one drive and no FILE class media types. My assumption is that during the migration, he's managed to get it to move data first to the primary tape, then copy to the copy pool in the same operation.

Site 2 was configured after the former admin left and is running 6.3.4. There is little documentation on how he set up site 1 and we've run into issues. We were able to get it up and running and performing backups, but we cannot get the offsite DR pool to work. Site 2 needs to do what Site 1 is executing. Single tape drive migration to both primary tape and a copy pool. Despite mirroring settings from one environment to the other, it does not function.

I have been digging at this for two weeks now without a solution. Almost all of the documentation I've found says it can't be done and yet I'm watching it happen on one environment. Any ideas as to what I'm missing?

How to Determine Information About a Huge File

$

0
We have some large files in our environment, and I'd like to figure out what those files are, and which TSM clients they belong to.

Here is an example of what I am talking about. Keep in mind that there are thousands of small files on this same tape.

Backup Storage Pool

Primary Pool ON_DSK, Copy Pool OFF_TP,
Files Backed Up: 16,487, Bytes Backed Up:
334,334,435,328, Unreadable Files: 0, Unreadable
Bytes: 0. Current Physical File (bytes):
194,231,369,728 Current output volume(s):
891289L4.

In the above example, this backup stgpool process is moving a 194GB file from disk to tape. How can I determine what that file is, and where it came from?

I realize there are ways to configure large files to go directly to tape, but in this environment the disk pools are gigantic, and it isn't a bad idea having it go to disk first.

Shared TSM library and scratch volumes for library client

$

Hi

I have setup what I believe is a working shared library environment between one library manager and one library client. I can do all the usual querying from either side, the shared library is defined to the library client, the drive paths to the library client on the shared library are defined on the library manager.

The reason for a shared library is to use the simultaneous write function on a stgpool on the library client to send client data, during the disk pool migration, to a local tape pool and simultaneously to a tape pool on the shared library.

When the data starts to migrate from the disk pool the library successfully contacts the library manager and requests a mount of a scratch tape. On the library client I can see that there is a request for a mount point (DRLTO is the devclass);

Code:

tsm: TSM01>q mo
ANR8379I Mount point in device class DRLTO is waiting for the volume mount to
complete, status: WAITING FOR VOLUME.

Then a moment later I see;

Code:

tsm: TSM01>q mo
ANR8376I Mount point reserved in device class DRLTO, status: RESERVED.

On the library manager I get;

Code:

08/27/2014 12:57:27      ANR8379I Mount point in device class DRLTO is waiting for
the volume mount to complete, status: WAITING FOR VOLUME.
                          (SESSION: 72)
08/27/2014 12:57:27      ANR8334I        1 matches found. (SESSION: 72)
08/27/2014 12:58:04      ANR8337I LTO volume 100172L4 mounted in drive DRV1
                          (mt0.0.0.3). (SESSION: 74)
08/27/2014 12:58:04      ANR9791I Volume 100172L4 in library DR-LIB ownership is
                          changing from DRTSM01 to TSM01.  (SESSION: 74)
08/27/2014 12:58:04      ANR8336I Verifying label of LTO volume 100172L4 in drive
                          DRV1 (mt0.0.0.3). (SESSION: 74)
08/27/2014 12:58:48      ANR8468I LTO volume 100172L4 dismounted from drive DRV1
                          (mt0.0.0.3) in library DR-LIB. (SESSION: 74)
08/27/2014 12:58:48      ANR0409I Session 74 ended for server TSM01 (Windows).
                          (SESSION: 74)

The library manager mount/dismount messages happen 3 times, (the library manager must try to mount 3 scratch volumes and then give up). One each occasion, the volume is a scratch volume checked in to the shared library.

Oddly, for each of the times the volume is mounted I can see that the volume status changes temporarily from scratch to private and containing data, according to 'q libv' and then reverts back to scratch;

Code:

tsm: DRTSM01>q libv

Library Name    Volume Name    Status              Owner        Last Use    Home      Device
                                                                              Element    Type
------------    -----------    ----------------    ----------    ---------    -------    ------
DR-LIB          100172L4      Scratch                                        4,104
DR-LIB          100175L4      Scratch                                        4,113
DR-LIB          100176L4      Private            TSM01      Data        4,109

Once the library manager messages are logged, on the library client there are the following messages saying that scratch volumes mount request denied and the autocopy fails;

Code:

08/27/2014 13:03:16  ANR1404W Scratch volume mount request denied - mount
                      failed. (SESSION: 7475, PROCESS: 833)
08/27/2014 13:18:14  ANR1917E Autocopy process 833 failed for storage pool

Hence my simultaneous write function does not complete.

I ran an audit library from the library client to the shared library, this logged as successful, however the time taken to complete the process, according to the activity log was less than a second. Perhaps TSM just registers the fact that the request was a success rather than the actual audit process completing successfully.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, JP.

TSM4VE Retention of deleted & Exlcuded VM's Question

Hi Folks,

I have a situation where VM FULL backups that were once backed up via TSM4VE, but have since been excluded from being backed up via TSM4VE (via it's opt file config) are not being deleted from TSM under it's Management Class settings? So the file space still remains well after the expiration periods of the Backup Copygroup? i.e <TSM4VE_DATAMOVER_NODE> \VMFULL-<VM-ServerName> Date last backup: 07/14/2013

The TSM4VE_DATAMOVER_NODE node falls under the following...

So my question is... Is it the ACTIVE 'Archive' CopyGroup which is associated to VE_DOMAIN, VE_POLICY & VE_MC which is retaining the copies of these VM FileSpaces well beyond the Backup 'Retain Only' setting? And if I remove this Archive CopyGroup will it automatically tidy itself up or do I need to go through and delete the old filespces I don't want manually? I only want to keep history associated to the backup Copygroup.

Many Thanks for your input.

Recall offsite volumes for restore by date

Hello,

We are doing a psuedo DR exercise in which I'm being asked to restore from our offsite copies. I'd like to recall the volumes for the node from a specific date for the restore.

I have found this statement works well but I need assistance in also adding a specific date since I really don't want to recall all offsite copy volumes.

select distinct volume_name, stgpool_name from volumeusage where stgpool_name='<COPYPOOL NAME>' and node_name='<NODE_NAME>' group by stgpool_name, volume_name

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

TDP SQL 5.5.5 with upgrade to SQL 2012 R2

Hi,
We recently upgraded one of our DB's from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 R2 and I'm now receiving the following error.

ACO5422E Received the following from MS SQL Server
CSqlApi::GetSQLDatabaseInfo2000:1482:1914
databaseH:- > CompatibilityLevel = 0 is invalid

I already have the QueryOptimization 0 set in my CFG files so I'm not sure where the issue lies? From what I saw in from of the IBM Documents, 2012 R2 is supported as of 6.4 and I'm at 6.5.5.

Anyone?

5 process migration cancels 4 processes at 40% pool drain

An odd thing happened after we moved from TSM 6.2.4 to 6.3.5. Our primary diskpool won't take more than 1 migration stream below 40%.
A little environmental detail. Our primary disk pool for our largest backup set is just under 7TB. The pool is set for a 90high, 20 low auto-migration, with 5 migration processes allowed. Nightly, we run a scripted migration to a Low of 0%.

Under 6.2, this worked normally where the 5 processes would run until about 30%, where two would drop off. Around 20%, two more would complete successfully and the final process would take the pool down to 0. On 6.3.5? Four of the five processes complete with a status of 'success' at 40% migrate-able. If I attempt to restart the migrations, four run just long enough to mount the tapes, complete with a status of 'success' then drop off. The diskpool never completes migrating before the next backups kick off the following evening. What might have changed in the upgrade? Is there a new setting I need to be aware of that I missed?

See a pool Detail below.

Migration - If Primary SP fills to 100% where do backups write?

Hi People.

Can somebody please confirm.

If my primary Storage Pool fills up, will TSM direct backups to write to the next Storage Pool in line?

If this does happen, would there be a definitive entry on the act log?

poor performance in LTO6 to LTO6 copy/move data

First of all, excuse my english...
I have a bad situation in two customers that I have checked this.
When I try to copy some data, specifically small number of larger files, like exchange or oracle databases, the speed limit reported in windows Performance Monitor and math with select on tsm process is around 40MB/s. If I copy/move the same data to disk (disk pool or filepool) and back to tape later, in the both situations the speed is around 100MB/s.
My conclusion is that the problem is the transfer between drives, because from disk to tape/tape to disk, the bottleneck probably is the disk.

The configuration is similiar, in both costumers, X3650M4, 32GB RAM, 16 and 24 cores, 1 FC adapter DUAL PORT 8Gbit., windows 8 R2 and windows 12 R2, both up to date in windows, drivers and firmwares with windows update and IBM update express express

Tape is TS3200, 2 drives LTO6 HH FC, both with latest firmwares.

TSM is 7.1.0.0 and 7.1.0.100

LTO Tapes are new.

When I did the tests, I had stopped all sessions and processes, including db auto reorganize.

I do some tests with movabathsize and txngroupmax values but no significantly changes in performance results.

Any sugestions or ideas?
