Restore Windows 2008r2 machine
Greetings!
We would like to prepare a document called: Bussiness continuity plan, and the main gold for this document is to restore a Windows 2008 r2 server.
We have followed the instructions: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/m...0Vista?lang=en
We came to the step:
3. Test network connectivity
Use the ping command to
test network connectivity. For example, if your Tivoli Storage Manager server's
IP address is 10.0.1.73, you can issue ping
10.0.1.73to verify that the server is
reachable:
X:\windows\system32>ping 10.0.1.73
The problem is that PING is not working and we have tried adding a static address:
netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection" static 192.168.x.x 255.255.x.0 192.168.x.x
gaves a result: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
We are trying to boot WinPE ISO on a vmware esxi 5.X on a newly prepared Virtual machine.
I have feeling that this gots to do sth with a Vmware NIC drivers that it should be included on WINPE ISO file.
netsh interface ip show config command gives a result:
Configuration for interface "Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1"
DHCP enabled: no
IP Address: 127.0.0.1
Subnet Prefix: 127.0.0.0/8 (mask 255.0.0.0)
InterfaceMetric: 50
Statically Configured DNS Servers: none
Register with which suffix: none
Statically Configured WINS servers: none
Has anyone before had problems with WINPE and using them on vmware esxi machines? There must be a way of adding NIC drivers for vmware right? Any hints?
With best regards,

TSM Library With Mixed LTO4 and LTO5 Drive and LTO4 Media
Dear All,
I seek your views on following scenario.
I have 1 TS3500 Storage library with 12 drives of LTO4 then we expanded Library with LTO5 12drives.
Newly added 12 LTO5 drives are used for the backup of servers to one storage pool and backup size is more than 30 TB.
most of the clients uses LTO4 drives. All media used is LTO4.
While reviewing TSM server I have seen device class definition contains format=drive which is configured when I was not with organization. Now my client asking for go for LTO5 tapes. while reviewing TSM blogs I came to know the following.
1> format=drive is not recommended when you have mixed drive. Do I have to specify new devclass for LTO5 tapes?
2> you cannot keep mixed media in 1 storage pool not recommended.
3> I have tested that LTO5 tapes can be defined and mounted on LTO5 drive with the device class defined for the LTO4 storage pools it is because format=drive is mentioned in device class definition.
4> what Steps I have to do in order to use mixed drives and media in TSM properly.
5> Any issue I will get in case of any restoration?
Help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Abhijeet

problem with fildev stg pool
Hi,
We have this setup :
TSM 6.3 server with 1 stg pool that is filedev. volume size is 100 GB, maxscratch is 37.
Space available is 3.8 TB and space is contained on two disks :
Disk D with 3.4 TB capoacity
Disk J with 400 GB capacity.
disk J has 4 volumes right now, and disk D has 26 volumes. There is enough space on D disk (around 1 TB)
Last night TSM tried to create output volume on disk J, and we recieved warnings http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37080112/tsm_space.png
Any idea why TSM server does not use disk D for new volumes instead of J?

dsmc restore system object?
Greetings!
Two dumb questions:
We are doing test restore of a WINxp machine with WIN PE iso file and tsm client integrated.
if we run dsmc restore system object command it does not work.
Backup/restore SystemState is probably not supported in XP? And it's supported since 2003 R2&Vista and l8r?

Include/Exclude question
All,
I am backing up a NAS share via a proxy node. The problem I'm having is that the primary share has 140 directories. They only want to back up 20 of these directories. The only way I see is to do domain z: and then exclude 120 directories. Is there a way for me just to identify the directories within the filesystem I want to backup? There doesn't appear to be a include.dir command.
Please help and Happy Holidays!

Limiting message being written to the activity log
Is there any way to limit certain messages from being written to the TSM server activity log? For example, I have a PERL script that issues the SHOW INVOBJECT command which results on a message being written. If I issue lots of SHOW INVOBJECT commands it could fill the log. I would love to be able to stop that command from writing to the activity log.

Client schedule log time/date stamps.
The TSM client does not include the time and date for each entry in its dsmsched.log when the backup job is invoked by something other than the TSM scheduler. Is there any way to have the time/date added/included under these circumstances?

TDP for SQL database backup failed with TCP/IP Connection failure
Hi Experts,
We have configured TDP for SQL to take database backup, but some of our SQL server databases backup are failing with the following error.
12/27/2012 05:13:21 ACO5436E A failure occurred on stripe number (1), rc = 418
12/27/2012 05:13:21 ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
12/27/2012 05:13:22 Backup of XX failed.
12/27/2012 05:13:22 ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
The backup is completing when we rerun the backup, but as per the schedule backup is getting failed every week. But even when we rerun the backup most of the time we are getting the above error. So we have to keep on trigger the backup at one fine time it will complete. This is the case for some of the SQL server and some of the instances. In the windows event log we have the below error log
BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device 'TDPSQL-000021E4-0001'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).
We have raised the support case with IBM, they said that it is the network problem, but when we checked with our network team, we got reply saying that no problem in network.
Kindly let us know what could be the issue. Where do we need to concentrate to solve this issue. We have to solve this issue as soon as possible.
Regards,
Kiruba

Restore with a different nodename
If we follow: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/m...0Vista?lang=en for bare metal restore, and if the machine we are restoring is still alive how can we achieve that durring the restore procedure we restore a machine to a machine with a different nodename?

Erro "ANR8935E A compatible device class for shared library" while backup using STA
Hi,
my tape library is : IBM3584
This library have 6LTO-4 drives and 4 - LTO-5 drives...
TSM Server : Server Version 5, Release 5, Level 5.2OS of TSM server : AIX 5.3 (5.3.0.0)
OS of backup client - AIX6.1 (6100-06-05-1115)
I get the following error while giving backup using STA to my LTO-5 tapes (using LTO 5 drives).
ANR8935E A compatible device class for shared library 3584LIB1 on server DCBKP_STA was not found.
ANR0535W Transaction failed for session 25332 for node DCRPT1 (AIX) - insufficient mount points available to
With out using STA ("lanfree no" in dsm.sys), backup is happening succesfully...
And, backup using LTO4 drives in this same library is happening through STA succesfully...

TSM with NETAPP filer - Backup & Restore is too slow
Hi,
Hope some one can help us.
We have configured NAS (NETAPP filer) to backup on TSM 6.3 using NDMP. The schedule runs from TSM admin schedule everyday. The backups goes to IBM VTL device & the backup size is around 2 TB.
The problem is, the backup process runs for minimum 16-18 hours everyday & restore process takes hours to load the view. Sometimes we have to kill the NAS backup process to reduce the TSM load.
CMD ->
ba n <filername > <volumename> mg=<mgclassname> toc=preferred wait=no mode=diff type=backupi
Is there any best method that we can use to improve the performance? Pls. suggest. Really appreciate your help.

Error on tape
Hi,
We are using LTO5 tape for our TSM backup,
From few days we are having read write error on a tape, when we tried to move data.
last 2% of data was unable to move. we had tried many time but still data is not moving.
we had done audit libvolume twice but still data is available and error as well  , there is 1 read error and 4 write error on volume. Can you please suggest me how to remove these errors from the tape.
or else these tape should be left as damaged tape vol.
Thanks

Problem installing TSM Admin Center6.3.3.000-TIV-TSMAC on Win 2008 Server
Hello, Not that I need it desperately, the TSM server runs fine, but from time to time I am trying to install this god forsaken piece of software called TSM Administration Center. It always fails with following info. A very informative info indeed. So if anyone is able to help me I'd be grateful. The log is attached as Zip, because IBM felt that it would be great if the log will be about 0.5 MB big...

Is there an easy way to check which backups are connected to a management class? So that I don’t have to open every dsm.opt and look for ex:
