ANR8214E Session open with xxx.xx.xxxx.xxx failed due to connection refusal

Hi all, I have a new node defined. Trying to run a scheduled backup. cant get past the above error. Initially the client OPT file had TCPPORT set to 1500. But using netstat -na | find "LISTEN" the client node did not show port 1500 listening. It wasnt there at all. 1500 was listening on the TSM server side. I did see that port 3389 was listening on both sides so I switched the OPT file TCPPORT to 3389. Stopped and started the TSM Client Acceptor but still getting the error. In DSMERROR.LOG I see the following which is probably why its still not working.

07/15/2013 09:10:57 cuIdentifyResp: Error -50 reading IdentifyResp from server.
07/15/2013 09:10:57 sessOpen: Error -50 receiving IdentifyResp verb from server
07/15/2013 09:10:57 ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
07/15/2013 09:10:57 ANS1570E Registering this instance of the Cad with the server failed. Cad process continues.

So, what do i need to do to get port 1500 listening on both sides? I'm not a server person and did not install the TSM pieces on the client node. Something not done right there maybe?

TSM version is 5.5.6.100. I am able to do a GUI manual backup.

Thanks for your help.

TSM 6.3.3 not seeing new IBM LTO5 drives in Overland NEO 8000e jukebox - only HP ones

I tried over the weekend to add four new IBM LTO5 drives (SAS) to a working NEO 8000e jukebox equipped with four HP LTO5 (SAS) drives. The operating system and jukebox can see and work with the drives, but not TSM. TSM just doesn't see them.

TSM Extended Edition 6.3.3.0 running on RHEL 6.3 with kernel 2.6.32-358.11.1.el6.x86_64

The drives were sold to us by the same Overland reseller who sold us the NEO 8000e equipped with the four original HP drives. The drive firmware version is D2A0. That is the second-most-recent version available when I check the Overland support web site. Because the OS can work with the drives, I think this is a very TSM-specific issue. The NEO 8000e is running the lastest firmware.

My dsmserv startup script uses /opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin/autoconf -a to populate /dev/tsmscsi. Only the four HP drives are identified and provisioned (meaning included in the /dev/tsmsci/mtinfo file and symbolic links made from /dev/tsmscsi/mt0 to /dev/sg5 etc).

I have tried all of the workarounds I could think of, including making links by hand for the new drives in /dev/tsmscsi (and modifying mtinfo and making the /dev/sg* files for the new drives world readable and writable like autoconf did for the HP drives). But when I got to define a drive and a path in dsmadmc I get an I/O error when TSM tries to contact the drive to determine it's capabilities and serial number (ANR8420E DEFINE PATH: An I/O error occurred while accessing drive DRIVE5.)

I tried using the /opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin/tsmscsi program instead of autoconf (first creating /opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin/{mt,lb,op}.conf files with the right info from /proc/scsi/scsi). That didn't recognize ANY drives.

If I /usr/bin/strings the autoconf binary, I see the same device model names as are printed during boot
(see dmesg output below) for the HP drives listed but NOT that of the IBM drives. But googling for "tsm ULTRIUM-TD5" yielded only hits that looked like TSM supported the IBM drives. I even downloaded the rpm containing the latest autoconf (6.3.4.000-TIV-TSMALL-Linuxx86_64.bin) and extracted its autoconf, hoping that it would behave differently. Nope. Looks identical to the 6.3.3 autoconf. (The (only) copyright date printed is 2009, which seems hard to believe.) Oh, and autoconf contains "Ultrium 6-SCSI" so it's LTO-6 ready...

string for HP: Ultrium 5-SCSI
string for IBM: ULTRIUM-TD5

scsi 0:0:0:0: Sequential-Access HP Ultrium 5-SCSI X51H PQ: 0 ANSI: 6
scsi 0:0:4:0: Sequential-Access IBM ULTRIUM-TD5 D2A0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6

TSM Cleaning tape not moving to dedicated cleaning slot

$

Hey everyone,

I recently configured our T3200 tape library on a new backup server (TSM v6.3) and it seems to be having issues loading tapes in drive 2 (never had the issue using the same library on our old 5.x backup server). When I launch an "audit library" command I see it failing with the following message "ANR8907E CLEAN DRIVE for drive LTO4_DRIVE2 (\\.\Tape1) in library LTO4LIB failed". Now, I used to clean the drives manually and the fact that the cleaning tape has never been checked in on our old backup server confirms that.

Just to be able to let TSM coordinate the cleaning of drive 2 (and get rid off the error), I moved the cleaning tape to an I/O slot, checked it in on the new backup server and ran the CLEAN drive command, which succeeded in cleaning drive 2. Since I prefer for the library to handle the cleaning, I checked the cleaning tape out from TSM .. now with an "audit library" command, TSM bugs me again that drive 2 needs to be cleaned.

My 2 questions:

- I prefer to let the library handle the cleaning of its own drives. Why on earth does TSM tries to clean a drive since a) I'm not asking for it and b) there's no cleaning tape configured ?

- If I have to let TSM handle the cleaning for one or another reason, is there a way to specify to which slot it needs to move the cleaning tape when checking in? There is a dedicated cleaning slot, but TSM moves it to a slot which I need for my data tapes.

Any help is greatly appreciated since I've been banging my head for the last 2h on this frustrating issue :)

Thx!

Difference in total File size after restore

Guys,

We restored some AIX Flat files on target machine which were exported from source AIX machine ( export node command on TSM server)

Problem is that out of 7TB, we are having some difference in total file size, for example a difference of 1 GB can easily be seen ( du -sg command)

Platform and Version of TSM servers on both source and target are same.

There was a break in TSM restoration activity , but we restarted it and finally restoration was successful.

Question is how to find which files in 3000 files have less bytes ? Is there any way on TSM or on AIX which can help us in identifying that file in difference in file size?

Appreciate your help :)

Library Tape Information

I am wanting to find a script that I can run against the tapes that are inside of my library and see if any of them are suppose to be offsite. I recently went and tested our DR and found that some tapes that were suppose to be offsite were actually still inside of my library back at home. When you run the command "q vol 00XXXXL3 f=d" I am wanting to be able to see if any of the tapes inside of my library have "Access: Offsite" and "Volume Location: Vault". Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Megablock Tuning

Hello,

I'm using TSM for VE 6.4 with a server TSM 6.2.3. I'm looking for some feedback/experiences regarding tuning megablocks using mbobjrefreshthresh or mbpctrefreshthresh.

What are you using for these options (and which one do you choose to use)?

Querying vm data in detail shows "average overhead of extra data", "average TSM objects fragmentation", "average number of TSM objects per backup", but I'm unsure how to use these numbers in determining the Megablock settings.

Here is an example of one of my VM's backup stats (edited):
----------------------
21 07/15/2013 17:48:43 VMWARE_BAC 48.82 GB IFINCR A servername
The size of this incremental backup: 6421952 KB
The number of incremental backups since last full: 20
The amount of extra data: 1
The TSM objects fragmentation: 3
Backup is represented by: 1493 TSM objects
Application protection type: VMware
VMDK[1]Label: Hard Disk 1
VMDK[1]Name: [datastorename] servername/servername.vmdk
VMDK[1]Status: Protected
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All averages are calculated only for incremental forever backups displayed above.
The average size of incremental backup: 3435456 KB
The average number of incremental backups since last full: 20
The average overhead of extra data: 1
The average TSM objects fragmentation: 3
The average number of TSM objects per backup: 987

If anyone has any feedback, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!

db backup / current date value

Hi, apologies in advance if I post this question in the wrong section or missing out on important information. Am fairly new to TSM and totally new to this forum of course and still trying to learn where to find what and how and and and ...

I wonder if I can modify my TSM reporting in a way, so that "if the Last Database Backup is not the current / actual date", it will be marked red
( or send a warning or something like that? )

Maybe the screendump will explain better.
( Here a client schedule failed and the line was marked red )

reporting.gif

Now ideally I would like the 'Last Database Backup' line be marked red if it is not the current / actual date.
I more or less figured out already that I can modify the reporting template, but I can not figure out what kind of value I could enter for the current date or how to completely change the SQL statement so I am able to get a warning or something like that?

ldbb.gif

Is this possible?
Any help would be cool
... or maybe just some links where db backup and reporting is a bit more explained?
Thanks

TSM Scheduler - multiple start times

$

0
I have a LINUX server that the backup continuously runs longer than 24 hours. The server owners do not like that the server is actually just getting backed up every other day.

I do not think that I can do what I am about to ask, but.......

In TSM can I put multiple start times associated with one schedule? I would do this becasuse the schedule would check to see if backups are running when it wants to kick off a new backup. If a backup is running then that scheduled start time is then skipped. If I would have the ability to add a second start time a few hours after the first start time then the backup may use that time if the backup on the server has completed before that second start time.

My second thought would be with duration. I understand that duration will wait to start the backup if the TSM server has too many session running at that time. So If I have duration set to 1 hour the backup can start anytime in that 1 hour time frame. But what if the backup is still running from the previous day, will duration wait for 1 hour to see if that backup finishes then start the backup if it does. My first thought would be "no" once the backup is initiated and the previous backup is still running that backup start time will be skipped.

That all being said, is there a way to have multiple start times using the TSM scheduler without having two backups running at the same time?

Thanks for your help.

select from backups table where backup_date older than 30 days

Thanks in advance for your input -
I have oracle rman clients performing backups and cleanup scripts.
Several times after changes on the oracle side the rman cleanup scripts are not working, but dbas are unaware of this.
It's bad berries for me because I run out of tapes and tape slots while trying to identify the problem.

All of my oracle rman client nodenames start with "ORACLE_" prefix. rman cleanup scripts delete anything older than 2 weeks. I think it would be safe to identify oracle rman client data older than 30 days.
I need a script to identify any oracle rman data older than 30 days.
the following is a rough guess at the select statement, but I want only the date not date/time and only data older than 30 days.

select NODE_NAME,FILESPACE_NAME,HL_NAME,LL_NAME,BACKUP_DA TE,DEACTIVATE_DATE from backups where node_name like 'ORACLE%%' and backup_date<(current_timestamp-30 days) order by node_name,filespace_name.backup_date

Backupset with TOC not restoring top level filespace name / directory

$

Can anyone please advise if there is a way to have multiple filespace names that are stored with one backupset restoed to a target directory? And the target director will have the multiple filespace names as folders created automatically ?

We are using restore backupset from a a TSM Server to a restore host that does not have the same filesystem layout as the backups. For example a backup set could have filespaces of
/u01
/u02
/u03
/db/data
/db/meta
/db/old

i want to have these all restore to a single location for example /restored_data/

each time we try it missed the top level dir name and simply groups the second level folders or files all into our restore destination

It will be too time consuming to manually create dozens of first level sub folders in our restore location then manually run a restore against each unqiue filespace

the TSM client manual doesnt have much to say

thanks

Peter

Any TSM Reporting Tool to check the Health of 50 TSM Servers at the same time.

$

Hi All ,

First of all I would like to thank the creator of this wonderful forum. It has been helping me a lot .

I have a doubt.
The client which I am working has around 50+ TSM Servers.
We do a Health Check of all the TSM Servers by manulaly logging into each TSM Servers and finding out the
DB%
Log%
STGPool > 80%
Number of processes running

We do this every 4 hours and manually logging into each server is taking a lot of time.
Is there any tool in the market that will help to automate this and make my life easier ??

Eagerly waiting for someones reply.
I need to submit the proposal if there is any tool in the market..

Unusually high database load (new instance)

We have built a new TSM instance, TSM version 6.2.1.1 on SLES 11 SP1 64 bit.
In this instance nodes are not yet defined and therefore no load.
Nevertheless, the instance DB already has an occupancy rate of 15% (with a capacity of 200 GB).
How can the utilization is already so high?

Server-initiated backups

$

I’m looking for a way to initiate client backups from the TSM server. I seem to recall that this is possible using the client scheduler, but I think this might not be best for my needs. My goal is to start the backups from an external scheduling program (UC4/Automic Automation Engine). To reduce license costs, I do not wish to install the UC4 agent on each host that needs to be backed up. This is why I thought of the possibility of initiating the backups from the TSM server.

  1. Is there a way to initiate client backups from server?
  2. Is there an API for issuing commands to the server or the BA client?

Thanks in advance for your input and ideas.

Problem with direct to tape backup

We have a large (10TB) direct to tape backup that progresses throughout the day and then ends all sessions before completion. Since the backup runs for 9 + hours and the 3 sessions end at the same time and the fabric ports are clean, I'm wondering if there is some tuning that needs to be done on the server side. Could the committimeout or idletimeout impact be the culprit? I'm at a loss and would appreciate any feedback.

Anyone running TSM 6 on Solaris?

If so I am hoping you would be able to check something on your system so that I can compare to what my DB2 is seeing for it's memory allocation on my test system. IBM is working with me, I can start my TSM server, but DB2 is not using memory allocation that we have configured, so it will likely not take a load so I can't upgrade my production servers until we figure out what DB2 / Solaris are doing/not doing.

I'd like to see your db2diag.log (might be db2diag.0.log) in <homedir>/sqllib/db2dump and tsm user config in your project file to see if they match.

Looking for the "Kernel Params:" section...

Hi Team,

When I am doing q libv I see some tapes of library clients showing private but in status nothing is coming and some of them is showing data.

Initially, I thought that there might be no data in the tape but when i ran q vol on library client it shows data and q libv vol shows no information like it it shows for other volume as data.

Please some one help in fixing this issue :)
