Retrieve by date...

Hi,
actually I'm working on a customer site and they use one TSM client (AIX) to archive (and delete) web servers logs on a regular basis (at *:55).
Sometimes users ask to retrieve logs for a given day from (i.e.) 11:45 (a.m.) to 14:15 so, using fromdate, fromtime and totime I can retrieve files.
As logs have the same name I had to write a small script to do some loops to create different destination folders and retrieve:

1. files fromtime: 11:54 totime 11:59 (so I will find files created between 10:55 and 11:54)
2. files fromtime: 12:54 totime: 12:59
3. files fromtime: 13:54 totime: 13:59
4. files fromtime: 14:54 totime: 14:59

The problem is that on first step I will retrieve even files created before 11:45 and the latest one will retrieve files created after 14:15.
As the Q ARCHIVE F=D shows file date/time, is it possible to write some sort of filelist to retrieve just needed files?

I tried to search in the database tables and columns but I didn't find where the "F=D" data are either.

Thanks.

TSM 5.5.7 Defrag procedure not working

So here I am, trying to export a 5.5.7 tsm server to 6.4. Unfortunately, my TSM db is 99.96% fragmented and 520 GB in size. I can't reduce it b/c of the fragmentation, and the exports are excruciatingly slow. So let's bite the bullet and defrag this puppy for a faster export to the 6.x environment. Or so that's the theory.

I've backed up my DB, volhist, devconfig, everything....
I've halted and unloaded the db to a devconfig defined devclass. The new file is a svelt 150 GB. :)
On the subsequent loadformat, I get an "Error opening file '/tsm/log01/tivoli3/log01', errno = 2"

bash-3.00# /opt/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmserv -o /tsm/config/tivoli3/dsmserv.opt loadformat 1 file:/tsm/config/tivoli3/loadflogs.vols2 6 file:/tsm/config/tivoli3/loadfdb.vols2

Error opening file '/tsm/log01/tivoli3/log01', errno = 2

I'm not finding anything useful for this error. Any thoughts/ideas?
Is this a permissions issue? I'm sudo su - into root when running the dsmserv loadformat.
I tried this after deleting the original log/dbvols (after the unload) b/c the loadformat should create new files.
I've also tried this after dsmfmt to reallocated the space for the log/db vols. Same error.

Data Protection for VMware OS supported

hii all,

I have a question that bother me.
IBM note that virtual machine backups initiated by the Data Protection for VMware product are only supported on Windows 2008, 64bit and Windows Server 2012, but Backup in a guest VM is supported for all listed Windows versions.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but Data Protection for VMware should backup in the ESX level.
So,why his not support in Windows Server 2012 R2 for example?

thanks,

IDO.

Hi @ll,

i have a problem to use a MSL2024 with FC.

The library have one LTO drive and one fc port. I´ve connected the fc port with a brocade switch. But i see only the wwn´s from the drive, not the wwn from the library.

The library has a wwn ends with 04
The node name ends with 05 and the wwn port name ends with 06.

05 and 06 are connected to the switch but i can´t see the 04.

Have anyone any idea why i did not see the library wwn on the switch?

Copy Pool on replica server?

$

I'm re-designing our TSM systems and would like some input from others who use node replication. Currently we have one TSM server at our primary site, and we do not use replication. The server has a large disk array that holds all node backups in file volumes. It also has an LTO library that is used to produce a copy pool, and we send the tapes via DRM/courier to a secondary site.

Now, at the secondary site, I'm considering adding a second server with an equivalent disk array. We would then use node replication to move data between sites.

If/when I replicate to this site/server, do I also need a library and a copy pool on that end? Or, is it overkill to have a copy pool for replica data?

Anyone think the copy pool I have at my primary site will also be overkill once I have replication going?

Database volumes appearing in Q DRMedia List with data tapes

During Offsite Copypool preparation, when issuing the Q Drmedia copyp=copypoolx command, the database volumes just recently started appearing in numerical order along with the data volumes.
The database volumes have always appeared at the bottom of the list, in a second list in ascending numerical order.
Any Ideas?
thanks!

Hi,

Just did an install of TSM 7.1 on Windows; however, when I go to create the windows service so I can start TSM in the background, there's no console directory (C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\console).

Did this disappear, or is my install broken?

Cheers,

TS3310 Tape "unassigned" in 1 location; in library in another

$

Hey guys,

I've been a regular browser around here.. but I've hit something that I just can't seem to identify a fix for, so I'm looking for some assistance.

I have a LTO4 tape that's located in our TS3310 (we use the web browser version of the command)

On the Data Cartridge screen: There is a tape with a bar code label assigned to it, that comes up as Unassigned in storage. The tape is marked off as being unable to worked with.

TAPE Library
000017L4 Unassigned LTO-4 Storage 0,6,6

However, on the Library map, in slot 0,6,6, the tape is listed as being in storage, AND it's assigned to a partition.

Type: Storage
Logical Library: ISLELMS
Location: 0,6,6
Volume Serial Number: 000017L4
MediaType: LTO-4
Element Address: 4115
Encryption: N/A
Encryption Method: None

So what am I missing to reset the data-cartridge listing? (it's marked as "Cannot be selected for operations, because it is not assigned to a logical library". Would an "perform inventory" reset this tape without affecting the dozen others in the various partitions?

Identify Duplicates process keeps running longer than set in duration

Hello chaps.
I have configured TSM using tsmconfig.pl from the Blueprint, deduplication process should run from 21:00 to 9:00 within backup window:
Code:

q sched t=a

* Schedule Name Start Date/Time Duration Period Day
DBBACKUP 2014-04-25, 10:00:00 15 M 1 D Any
DEDUPLICATE 2014-04-25, 21:00:00 15 M 1 D Any
EXPIRE 2014-04-25, 07:00:00 15 M 1 D Any
RECLAIM 2014-04-25, 11:00:00 15 M 1 D Any

q script deduplicate f=d

Name Line Number Command Last Update by (administrator) Last Update Date/Time
DEDUPLICATE Description Run identify duplicate processes. ADMIN 2014-04-25, 14:53:53
DEDUPLICATE 10 identify duplicates DEDUPPOOL numprocess=12 duration=720 ADMIN 2014-05-30, 12:26:33

At 13:00 EXPIRE, DBBACKUP and RECLAIM already completed, but all of the identify processes still running. Does anywone know how to restrict identify run time?

Please excuse my bad English, I hope you can understand what I want to say.

Backup retention once client had been shutdown

$

Hi I'm trying to find a definitive answer to this. We have TSM backups of ServerA, ServerA is decommissioned and shutdown (therefore no TSM Client running anymore), the client node remains defined to TSM. How long will TSM keep the backups for? Policy is vere=21, verd=21, rete=21, reto=60. As TSM will never realize the file(s) are deleted will it keep the last version forever?

Adding Raid drives and re-defining storage pools

$

Hi,

We are running TSM 7.1 in a Windows environment. Our storage pools are at capacity. We have added 7 new drives (RAID) to the server and we would like to use some of the space for our Archive and Disk Pools.

According to documentation re: online capacity expansion, we should be able to add the drives without loss of data and that we only need to re-define a volume for the storage pool(s).

Is this correct?

Dealing with VM UUID changes

$

I just encountered this message and was wondering what the definitive best way is to deal with this.

ERROR ANS1715E A filespace already exists for VM (vm001), but with a different VM uuid (421a3b7a-d496-23c9-da89-b6b01c010de2) than the current one (564d2bba-6f40-0465-8f2a-d1d179669fb1).

I have found several recommendations online
- Rename the file space: This gets rid of the error, but now I don't see how I can restore data from the original file space. When I go into the client to mount the -OLD virtual machine name I am prompted that "No snapshots are available for the selected virtual machine. Or, the authentication node is not authorized to restore this virtual machine." Not sure what to make of this, it is still a file space under the same node name as it was before, it just had -OLD appended to the original name during the rename process.
- Delete the file space: This also gets rid of the error, but deleting all the backups is not a viable option.
- Enter testflag VMBACKUP_UPDATE_UUID into the dsm.opt file: I tried this, the error messages didn't go away but it looks like the backups ran.

Obviously I would prefer that the backups run successfully and we don't get any errors. Our internal VMWare support team told me that I should expect to see UUID changes from time to time for various reasons.

Thanks,
-Rowl

"restore -fromnode" results in ANS1302E (same client version, Active object)

Hello TSM Gurus -

I'm getting started with TSM restore to different node, and I'm baffled that a seemingly simple cross-node restore is producing the ANS1302E result. Our TSM Server version is 6.3.4. I'm trying to restore from node FTWIT01 (Win 2008 SP1, 32-bit / TSM Client 6.2.1.0) to node FTWIT02 (Win 2008 R2 SP2, 64-bit / TSM Client 6.2.1.0). I found a troubleshooting article (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docvie...id=swg21573404 ), but it was not helpful in this case. Below are specifics. Ideas would be most welcome.

Many Thanks,
Janet

On ftwit01 we can see the version, filespace name, and backup object (active):
tsm> show version

On the TSM server, we can see the object:

tsm: TSMSERV>select * from backups where node_name='FTWIT01' and filespace_name='\\ftwit01\c$' and ll_name = 'TAD4DAGENT-PRAKASH' fetch first 2 rows only

On ftwit02 we cannot restore the object:
