TSM with TS3100

Hello
I'm new using tape system, so I need a little help, I installed TSM 7.1 and after few tests with file dev, work great, now I have to configure a TS3100. So it's installed their drivers on Windows 2008R2 system, in the Device Manager Console I can see "IBM ULTRIUM 6 HH 3580 TAPE DRIVE", two of them. Then I tried with tsm command "tsmdlst.exe", and also I can see it too. Now here is where I lost, how can I know if TSM server can access to TS3100? I tried to configure with no success, when I tried to define path show me an error, so where can I establish connection between TS3100 and TSM server?

Greetings, I have been asked to find out how much data I am backing up on a per management class basis. I've done some preliminary research and it looks like this query would be very heavy on my servers (taking the information from the "backups" table) Is there a way to make this easier, possibly by using a join? Your help greatly appreciated on this one.

Errormessage with prepare after renaming storagepools

Hi,

due to better understanding I have renamed all storagepools on one of our TSM-servers. I changed the poolnames also in the management-classes.
For instance:
AP2AVD was changed to AP-AVD

But now, when the prepare-command runs in our daily housekeeping, I get the messages:
ANR6915W PREPARE: Storagepool AP2AVD is not defined to the server.

What's gone wrong ? Can I correct the name ? But where ???

Linux TSM upgrade from 6.3.4 to 7.1 unrecognized password

Hi all,

I was attempting to upgrade my dual instance TSM server from 6.3.4 to 7.1 but I'm a little puzzled on the new upgrade process. Can you help?

I get the following request for a password but I'm at a loss. I have no TSM (admin) user named tsminst1/2 on my instances and the verified system user password is refused as show bellow

What is TSM expecting? An admin within the instance, a system user with a less complex password?

As a bonus, could someone point me to a description for each of these?

Please help me. :(

the problem is I can't Changes configuring on the Tivoli Integrated Portal.

as client node schedule "Error Massage "Administrator ADMINTSM1 is not authirized to issue this command"

Previously I can Changes client node schedule by user "ADMINTSM1" .But after I have pressed Resynch Health Monitor Password I can't configuring.

Please help to resolve this problem.

How can I find needed tapes for ndmp restore ?

Once a week we do a ndmp backup from our volumes. After this backup we check out all tapes from the ndmp backup and set the volumes to "unavailable"
If I have to restore a single ndmp volume, how can I find out, which of the tapes I have to check in before restore ?
If I do a "restore nas {/vol/proe} {/vol/proe_test}" I get the message, that the storage media is inaccessible. He tells me the first tape, but I want to know all tapes. I didn´t found a "preview=yes" or anything else. How can I solve this problem ?

Hi,

yesterday I installed the Data Protector for Domino (64 Bit), configured the domdsm.cfg, dsm.opt and dsm.sys, defined the new client on the TSM-server and when I try to test the installation, I get an errormessage...

This is the test-command:

Problem is solved....my colleague found the reason for the malfunction. Too much text to explain......

Drive Failure - Re-inserting Tape

I recently had a tape stuck in one of the Drives within my IBM 3584 Tape Library.

An engineer came to site and managed to remove the tape manually, now I am unsure how I should check it into the tape library without erasing any data.

From what I understand the Tape would have had a logical slot assigned to it so its not a case of just checkin it in.

TSM for SAN licensing

Hi

In a scenario where I have a IBM P7+ server with 32 cores, running 40 lpars. If I want to do LAN free backups on just one lpar do I have to license all 32 cores or if I cap the one lpar at 5 cores can I just license the 5 processors ?

If the latter, does it have to be a hard cap in the lpar profile or will IBM accept the lpar being limited to 5 by the number of virtual processors limit ?

TKLM 2.0.0.3 to SKLM 2.5 upgrade/migration

Hello all. We have a requirement to upgrade our TKLM server from v2.0.0.3 to SKLM v2.5.0. Do any of you know of a FAQ, or a good HowTo document that can help guide my process? So far it's been less than satisfying trying to use only the Installation and Configuration Guide. The guide seems to leave a lot out.

TDP Exchange 7.1 - Wrong Point in Time when using Mailbox Restore Browser

Hi,

when I do Restore of an Exchange-Mailbox using Mailbox Restore Browser, I see mails that have a time stamp later than the time I configured to be restored.

Backup is configured to do a weekly full backup and daily differentials.

You can do a point in time restore using Mailbox Restore Browser with that backup configuration, right? Could it be that this is because Exchange 2010 is logging in UTC and you have to calculate the time difference to UTC? Can you configure the Client with a time zone to do this automatically?

Co-Existing TSM Client Software

Hi All,

I have a few scenrios coming up where I have clustered Oracle Linux servers backing up the Oracle DB via RAC through the TDPO client. (Version 5.2.2)

For exmple TSM Node = ORACLE1_TDP can recieve Oracle DB backups from either servers ORACLE1-1 & ORACLE1-2

Today the business owner of these servers now requires file level backups outside of the Oracle DB's (Basically BA Client Backups) on the same two servers (ORACLE1-1 & ORACLE1-2)

Can the BA Client software co-exist on the same server as the TDPO Software? (We use ver 6.3 BA Client for Linux) and if so how can this be done? When attempting to install the BA Client software I get conflicting file errors referring to the TDPO API64 Package previously installed? So will a case of just upgrading the TDPO software on the servers to ver 6.3 and then re-running the BA Client installs do the job?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

TSM 5.5 to 6.3 upgrade with a caveat...

Hello everyone. I'm presented with a bit of a head scratcher for me...

We have an old 5.5.7 server that we were just planning to retire after the end of support date. Now it seems that this machine will have to live on as a second instance on a current 6.3.4 server. The problem i am facing in testing is that when i perform the upgrade to a test server the 5.5 server wants to come up on the new server as Instance1 like it is on the 5.5 server now. Is there a way i can upgrade to an existing TSM 6.3.4 server that already has an "Instance1" on it? I'm sure there has to be some settings i could change somewhere to have the upgrade start and live as "Instance2" instead of "instance1"

I've already considered EXPORT and IMPORT but that will not work... there is just waaaay too much data. I just need to migrate the DB and then rezone the library to the new server.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

ANS1832W - SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION no longer supported on TSM 6.4

Hi guys, I was checking some backup errors on windows servers with TSM client 6.4.0 and I found that SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION option is no longer supported on this version.

ANS1832W The option 'SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION' is no longer supported and will be ignored by TSM client in this release.

Do you know if that option was replaced with another one? Is not possible to redirect the snapshot cache to another different disk?

I tried to looking for some information from manuals and forums but I didn't find nothing about.

I would appreciate any help regarding this topic.

VMWare tools version dependency

I am getting mixed messages on the version of VMWare Tools that needs to be installed in each guest. In looking over the error log from last night I see two messages indicating the VMWare tools are out of date, yet the other 748 guests running the same version of VMWare tools backed up fine and made no mention of this. When I talk with Tivoli folks I am told I need to make sure we have the latest version, the documentation states "A current version.....must be installed", and the VMWare team I work with is of the opinion if any version is installed we are fine.

(I am not a VMWare admin) I am told that the effort required to assure the "latest version" is installed in every guest is unreasonable. What do I really need?

TSM DB, Log & Stg pool migration in windows

Hi TSM Guru's,

Can anyone suggest me the best way to migrate TSM DB,LOG & Diskpool from one windows to another machine.

I am thinking to do this.

copy tsm db,log and diskpool vol to new server
install tsm server on new machine with new db, log and disk pool location
copy dsmserv.opt,devconfig and volhist to new server
Issue dsmserv restore db ondbdirs="db volumes list" and actlog="actlog path"
Bring up the tsm server and define old disk pool volumes as volumes to the new disk pool.

Does it sound correct? Am I am on the right path here? Please help.

TSM topology design help

Hi All, I'm struggling with options for a backup infrastructure upgrade. My current environment is all in 1 site. I have a live tsm server and a cold standby. It writes to a variety of SAN disk and tape for both primary storage pools and copy storage pools.

Recently we got a second site that will begin hosting servers. I got approval for a dedupe applance (1) and tape library (1) and 2 tsm servers, to replace what exists today.

Originally i thought i would have the live TSM server at SITEA with the dedup appliance as the primary storage pool. The tape library for copy storage pool would be at SITEB (There is also some thought of putting a SAN disk in for cache space at SITEA so the data doesnt have to "Un-dedupe" to be sent to the copy storage pool.

I'de love to use a cluster or node replication so servers at both sites speak to their respective TSM servers but the data could be retrieved at either in the event of a site failure. When i try to map it out though it seems like i would duplicate the data in the storage pools if i did so since the storage pools would be the same at both sites? (Dedup appliance @ SITEA - Primary , Tape Libray @ SITEB - Copypool)

anyways i figure someone smart might be able to give me an idea or suggestion, it would be much appreciated.
