How to find associated volumes

$
0
0
Hi,

I am planning to run an audit over all of our offline volumes. I'd would like to that in small batches rather than importing a lot of offline volumes at once into the library. The problem is that the audit terminates if the respective volume contains a file which spans over more than one volume and the consecutive volume is not present in the library: ANR2456E AUDIT VOLUME: Unable to access associated volume xyz - access mode is set to "offsite".

Is there a way to find out which volumes are associated with a given one?

Thanks, Georg.

Move Scratch Tapes

I want to move some scratch tapes from theLTOOFFSITE pool to the LTOPOOL4 POOL because I'm temporarily running out of them. Making sense of TSM command options isn't very easy - I guess I need to use MOVE MEDIA, but what should come after that?

Its like TSM does not know about the rest or lost track of them. And they are taking up a lot of room.

Before we add space ( maybe another /tsmsan4 file system of the same size); I would like to know why TSM doesn't seem to know about these files/volumes. Any help would be appreciated.

tdp for sql backing up passive

Has anyone found the command that will backup the passive copy of a sql cluster like you can with DAG groups in Exchange. I've gone through the user guide, searched google, and this forum, but can't find any reference to it. Is this even possible for SQL?

THe app team is insisting the backup be performed on the passive copy.

Changing the Title of the Admin Console?

$

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know a way of changing the Title of inidividual DSMADMC Admin consoles being called through desktop shortcuts to different opt files?

I find it annoying in Windows 7, when I minimize my numerous Admin Consoles that each one says the same 'IBM Tivoli Storage Manager' and gives me no indication of what console is which when on the bottom bar. Currently I have to flick through them until I find the right one which wastes times! So I thought there must be a way of renaming the title like there is for normal dos cmd windows?

Anyone done this and can point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

Trouble Establishing Server to Server Communication TSM v5.4 - TSM v6.3

Hell
Hello, I have been trying to establish Server-Server Communication between servers, but after I define both the servers I face issue.
tsm: TSM3>ping server TSM5
ANR1705W Ping for server 'TSM5' was not able to establish a connection.

ANS8001I Return code 4.

tsm: TSM5>ping server TSM3
ANR1706I Ping for server 'TSM3' was able to establish a connection.

It seems there is only one way communication, is it a possibility that the TSM server version be an issue here? TSM3 is 5.4 server version and TSM5 is 6.3, any suggestion will be very valuable, Thanks.

Migrating from Dedup to non-Dedup storage pool

$

I am wondering if I am missing something simple, or if I am attempting to do the impossible here. I have a storage pool for a data set where I no longer want to use TSM deduplication. I created a new storage pool and redirected the backups there. Now I am attempting to migrate the older data from the dedup pool to the non-dedup pool and get stuck every time.

- Pool to Pool migration: The volumes consistently migrate 4GB / volume and the processes stop moving data.
- Move Data on volumes: The processes will also move 4GB and stop "Return code 9999", act log shows it was canceled.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Rowl

Hello,
I try to test tsm client for PostgeSQL to do backup on TSM. Unfortunately I have no access on TSM server to check his version and so on.
I have test PostgreSQL database. I've installed client rdp4Postgres-4.0.1.1-sun4u.pkg.tar from repostor, have performed configuration like in repostor's tutorials for PostgreSQL. But I have error in log file like below. I wonder if you could help me with this error. Is it server and client version mismatching or is it problem with client installation?

VMware VM backup throughput, backup restore performance

$

Dear TSM fellows,

I am curious what throughput you can achieve when doing VM backup and restore of VMware virtual machines with the TSM BA client.
We expected much more and what we see is "incremental forever - full" backup with 80 MB/s over 10 GBit LAN (NBD) and 120 MB/s over 8 GBit SAN (SAN). Both source and target storage achieve at least 350 MB/s at sequential copy tests (using just normal Windows copy). VMCTL is on disk, backup data goes to file device class. Multisession VM backup achieves 80/120 MB/s per session, which shows that the LAN/SAN connection is not the bottleneck.

What is your experience with backup/restore performance of VMware VM´s?

our config is:
TSM server 6.3.4.300 on Windows 2008R2
TSM BA client 7.1.0.3
vSphere 5.1
backup proxy is the Windows TSM server

I´d appreciate if you would share your experiences.

Thank you and best regards,
bonobos

TDP v7.1 for MS SQL Server 2012

$

Hello,

I have installed & configured TDP 7.1 Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server on a system running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit and MS SQL Server 2012.

I am able to run a manual TDP backup from the Flashcopy Manager GUI to backup the SQL databases successfully.

I have created TDP SQL windows service to automatically backup the SQL databases using TDP agent V7.1 and added the node to a TSM backup schedule.

When the automated TDP SQL starts to backup the database the following error is reported:-

ACO5426E The SQL log on does not have the Sysadmin role: CSqlApi::LogonServer:6703:1904 Server:IsSysadmin:false

I believe TDP uses the SQL "sa" account to login and connect to the database. The "sa" account already has "sysadmin" role but TDP backup still reports the same error.

Please can anyone help me?

Thank you
