Excel 2010 ODBC query into TSM v6.3 DB2 database reports nothing for most tables

$

Hey,
just played around to get reporting data out of TSM v6.3.4.200 using MS Excel 2010 ODBC connection to the DB2 database.
The connectivity works fine, but for some tables the result reported back to excel is just empty (for example: admin_schedules or scripts table). On a v5.x TSM server the corresponding queries did report data back. Are there any basics i missed on this topic to get the desired data back from DB2 ? Sometimes there is just 1 or 2 colums missing (like the filespace name if querying the filespaces or filespaceview table). Appears pretty strange to me at a first step. I use the ODBC client v9.7fp8 for this.
Any help is very appreciated. . . .
Thanks a lot

Restore file from snap of a SAN drive in Optistore problem.....

We have a server (node) that backs up other servers drives by either mapping the drive or mounts a snap of the drive, called GM058 Using HYPERTRAC software. So when a server that has data backed up like this, say DM062 needs to restore a file through it's own GUI, after setting up for point-in-time, select the file, click restore, it just sits there and does nothing can leave it for whole day, nothing happens. We wind up having to restore the file to GM058, then moving it over to DM062. have set up Node Access List for DM062 on GM058. (all Windows 2008 R2). Not sure if this is correct though as GM058 is acting more like an 'Agent' for 'Target DM062'? Do I need to set up Proxynode for DM062 to show Agent Node of GM058? right now it shows 'None' when doing q proxynode target=DM062.....Client versions are 6.3.1....TSM server version is 6.3.3. The back ups work great, its the restores that are the issue. So not sure PROXYNODE is my problem or not as DM062 can see the file when setting up in the GUI to restore.

This unique and new feature dramatically increases problem determination and performance analysis capabilities in TSM environments.

Various filter possibilities are available and data from different TSM sources is combined to produce a condensed and easy to use process overview with color indications dependent on performance, errors or functionality.

An additional available global “Throughgput Chart” shows directly the performance of your whole TSM environment (including multi-TSM-server environments with parallel result displays) or from selected items. In addition, statistical data of selected items is available at any time.

You can use it for single AND simultaneously for multi-TSM Server environments as well.

TSM 6.2 server upgrade from Windows 2003 (32 bits) to Windows 2008R2 (64 bits)

Hello,

I'm planning to migrate my TSM server 6.2.6.0 from a Windows 2003 32bits to a Windows 2008 64 bits on a new physical server.
I'm looking for the quickest way to migrate it.

For the moment, we have tsm client from another company doing backups on our server. Therefore, I don't have access to those client to change anything (like ip address of the server). That's why, if possible, the migration should occur during a timeframe of 8-12 hours max (between 2 backups windows).

I was planning to install the new physical server with Windows 2008R2 and TSM server 6.2.6.0 (64 bits) in advance.

I'm wondering if moving the library to the new server and performing a backup DB on the source server and restore DB on traget server along with dsmserv.opt, volhist and devconfig is enough to get the new server running like if it was the old one ?

Feel free to give me any advice :)

Many thanks in advance.

If Agent Node is Lan Free does Target Node need Storage Agent for a restore?

$

We have a node acting like an Agent Node backing up different servers data on a SAN using Hypertrac software to snap the drives (data) Lan Free. Works great. When we go to do a restore of a servers data backed up this way, the GUI just sits there after selecting the file and hitting 'Restore' button, a couple sessions open on the TSM 6.3.3 windows 2008 R2 server, but no restore happens. Because the backups are lan free do the servers that have their data backed up this way ALSO have to have the Storage Agent on them in order to restore? The server doing the backup is 2008 R2 windows. and the servers being backed up by it are also 2008 R2. Grant access to nodes have been set up on the BA client of the backup server. I also did a Grant Proxynode command on the TSM server thinking that was the problem, tried to restore a single simple txt file....same thing, GUI just sits there. Any guidance would be helpful. thanks. john.m

LAN Free Uninstalled, Still Tries to Connect

$

We are dropping our LAN free licenses to cut back on costs, so I uninstalled the StorageAgent. I also deleted the server definition and paths. However, several of the hosts, most of them AIX, still show repeated attempts to connect in the TSM Server activity log, but the sessions are obviously denied. I've checked that the software has been removed on the AIX clients, the processes are no longer running, and the entries are removed from /etc/inittab. So I'm drawing a blank on where these connection attempts are coming from and how to stop them. They're not causing any real problems, other than a bunch of unnecessary errors in the activity log. But I'd like to clean up what ever is left behind.

Thanks in advance for any help.

db2 tsm backup fails with rc -50

$

We have a db2 V9.7 with daily tsm online backups.
Last few days tsm backup fails with rc -50 :

-050 E: DSM_RC_TCPIP_FAILURE Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure

and in db2diag.log i see Vendor error: rc = 17 returned from function sqluvend. which means that commit function failed

Backup is starting at 3:00am. Normally it was successfully finished in 3 hours, but last days it fails after about 9.5 hours - and each day practically at the same timepoint.

"db2 list utilities show detail" is telling that 90% backup progress reached and after that nothing more happens.

Regular archive log backups are being completed successfully - same tsm server used. So i cant imagine how this could be network problem.

I tried to increase CommTimeOut from 20 000 to 50 000 but no result. Logically, 20 000 is more than enough as succesfull backups where done within 3 hours.

I would be very thankful for any suggestions.

Regards,

Zura

Local BackupSet restore from a tape media

Hello every body,
I am new to TSM, can anybody tell me how to enter fields in Backup/Archive Client while restoring from local backup set from a tape media.
I have a Crystalinks FireStreamer as virtual tape library.
and suppose I have took backup on the virtual tape somehow then how to restore it using 'Local Backupset Restore' option?

Actually, I am confused when I select this option in Backup/Archive Client GUI, it prompts me to select File Name: Or Tape Name: then put location.
In case of file name it seems logical to browse the location of .OST file but in case of tape, Where to browse?
On Windows system, How can we browse tape?

Upgrade TSM from 5.5 to 7.1 new server on network

Hello,
I'm working on TSM Migration from 5.5.1.0 to latest version.
I'm currently reading the upgrade guide, I choosed the "New system , network method " Scenario, since my actual tsm is on Windows 2003 and 7.1 is not compatible with.

I'm Fairly new in TSM, and i don't want to take Risks.
I don't know guys, if you have suggestions / best practice to avoid data loss?

I have one TSM sever 5.5 installed on Windows Server 2003 + scsi librairie (Dell Power Vault) + SAN disks as Disk storage pool.
besides, I have some technical questions to ask:
1- will TSM recognize the same SAN disks after he upgrade on the 7.1? or should I introduce new lun to the new TSM server?
2- where will I store a copy of the DB Bakup before the upgrade?

did someone do the same upgrade before?

Thank you.

GPFS mmbackup and monthly retention

Guys

I want to do a monthly and yearly retention for a GPFS filesystem. What i learned that whenever you run mmbackup , it will always used selective TSM backup in back ground.

If this is the case what is difference between running mmbackup with incremental and full options ?

Also if we need to implement a monthly archive or yearly archive , but in background if we dont have TSM archive function capability then what settings of verexists , verdeleted to be used to ensure monthly/yearly retentions?

Please advice

Weekly archive for 20 TB

Hi All,

We were doing weekly archive fro 20 TB file system in Data domain. Data Domain has become full and we need alternate solutions to do weekly archive.

Scenorio here: We copy the Production file system from prod server to TSM server server (20 TB) every day to offload the backup from production . So the 20 TB file system was mounted in TSM server and we took archive from there. We used to face often communication issues in TSM Server as we faced much load in TSM. Now , We plan to go with Physical tape library to do weekly archive. If we do archive to physical tapes over the LAN then TSM server load will be high. Can we implement Storage agent in TSM server to use LANfree for weekly archive. Please advise.

Or we can mount the file system in someother server and implement storage agent to go to physical libary.

Thanks,
Frank
