Cluster node Setup

Hi All,

We have a small requirement in cluster environment. We have three nodes (A,B,C) . A for Primary , B for Secondary , C for Cluster node. Cluster node was there in Primary till last week , so it used the IP of primary server to backup (15.0.148.12). We did failover this weekend and the Cluster node moved to secondary server. When we tried to start the scheduler service for cluster node in secondary server , it was not starting automatically. We had to do dsmc -se=clusserver to establish the session with TSM server to use secondary server IP address (15.0.148.13) and then we were able to start the scheduler service for cluster node in secondary server. My requirement is , Is there any other way to start the scheduler service automatically if the failover happened . Please advise. Your reply is much appreciated...

Windows Clients Upgrade with TSM Server

I know that it is possible with TSM Server Version 6.3, to upgrade Windows clients automatically with TSM, eg from version 5.5 to version 6.3.
This must be done on the TIP? Unfortunately I have not found any instructions on how this should work. Does anyone have a link or instruction for me ?

TSM v6.3 client throwing ANS2600S

Have a couple servers that started throwing this error:
ANS2600S Browser trying to establish connection to client; received socket exception: java.net.ConnectException: connect: Address is invalid on local machine, or port is not valid on remote machine.

Running the v6.3 client on Windows 2003 SP2. These clients were running fine so I am sure something changed on these servers. The port and connection between the client and its TSM server are still open. Anyone have any ideas where I should look?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to define 2 seperate Storage Pools using 1 Tape-Library. For example if I have a Tape-Library with 40 Tapes that Storage Pool A uses 20 espacially assigned Tapes und Storage Pool B uses the other 20 espacially assigned Tapes?

Kind Regards & Thanks

ANS1809W A session with the TSM server has been disconnected / questions

Hello all,
New to the forum, and new to TSM. Quick question for now...
Every morning in TIP I see (usually 3) machines that are in the "successful, but requires attention" area. If I look at the error log on those machines, the only thing I see is the message below, twice.
"ANS1809W A session with the TSM server has been disconnected. An attempt will be made to reestablish the connection."
Backups are set at 4 retries, and data is being backed up.
Should I look for errors elsewhere? If that is the only error, is there a way to "ignore" the error so the backups are in the "Successful" group and not in the requires attention group?

Tivoli Monitoring for TSM 6.3.4 for TSM 5x

Hi there, I recently installed and configured ITM 6.3.4 for TSM. The first TSM instance 6.3.2 agent worked flawlessly. However, my other two TSM 5.5 instances are not showing any activity. I am wondering if this version of ITM is incompatible 5.5 or if there an additional step that is overlooked in the documentation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks - PS. The TSM servers are all AIX and the ITM Server is CentOS 5.8

How to find out the nodes that write to a storage pool

There is a legacy TSM environment in our company. It works farily good, but we are about to migrate some of major TSM clients to EMC NetWorker domain with a view to decommission TSM installation as a whole. There are a number of storage pools with 5 years retention period. We are anxious to know that nodes write to these pools. Our aim is to stop these pools from populating with new backups. The problem is we don't really know that management classes are used for each node. It is determined on the client side. Is there any sql query or command that shows the nodes that write to a particular pool?

Thank you very much in advance. Your help would be really appreciated.

How is the retention period determined if the server has a setting of 1 year as deafult but the client has an incexc file containing include /.../* M1 where M1 is 1 month ? How can I determine from the client if a file is retained for 1 month or 1 year ?

Thank you
Markus

Sending client *.log files via email from Windows

$

Hello all,

In my particular case I have a Windows 2008 R2 server hosting vSphere for VMWare, and when we had TSM installed there was a "TSM for VE" application installed to allow TSM to backup VMs. We happened to also install the TSM Reporting application on the same Windows machine (not sure exactly what it's called because the actual master TSM server that handles the schedules is on a Linux machine). For the VMs backed up through the TSM/VMWare plugin the logs are stored locally on the Windows machine. As I have seen mentioned in a few recent threads, I would prefer to see the detailed information for backups contained in the *.log files (in C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient, particularly dsmerror.log and dsmsched.log).

For my Linux clients I would write a perl or bash script that parsed the logs and then piped it to sendmail so that I could get those logs (like dsmsched.log) in email format, but I'm not sure how to do this in Windows. I'm guessing the Windows server, which has a TSM Reporting control panel of sorts (Start->All Programs->Tivoli Storage Manager->Management Console), contains its own built-in email in the reporting application (or does it utilize a Windows email subsystem somehow?). It would be ideal to just customize a "Report" under the Management Console so it that could send the file, but it looks like all you can do is issue some form of SQL query to the TSM database to customize reports.

Is there a way to do what I am wanting to do through TSM or Windows natively or will I have to install some sort of a mail server on the Windows 2008 server?

Thanks,
Josh

Frankenstein Tape Libraries - SL48 same as HP MSL4048? Put LTO6 drive in SL48?

Hey Auto-loader aficionados,

I have a Sun/Oracle SL48 tape library with SCSI LTO-4 drives in it

Oracle is not updating this library to LTO6 drives, but HP has a very similar model that does....
can I buy the HP LTO6 drives and put them in the SL48 and expect them to work?

Alternatively, can I buy an empty (no drives) HP MSL4048 and put the SCSI LTO4 drives from the SL48 in it?

The hardware looks identical between SL48 and MSL4048 - anyone tried flashing the library
firmware for one on the other? Are the parts interchangeable?

This document seems to suggest that the hardware is all the same: (HP MSL G3 Series)

Is TSM the best product??

Hello fellow backeruppers...

In a former life I was a TSM administrator, managing TSM in a predominantly AIX environment and with a hundred or so Windows clients too, so I know a fair bit about the product.

I'm after some "independent" advice for a new backup product at my new employer because the current installation of BackupExec 2012 is as bag of spanners.

This is a completely virtualised vSphere environment consisting of Approx 150 VMs spread over 10 ESXi 5.1 Hosts, all sitting on a FC SAN, total 15TB.

For TSM there shouldn't be any additional hardware requirements as we have NAS and tape library available for backups.

What are people's experiences like with TSM for VE?
Do you think my environment is too small?
Do the new kids on the block produce more suitable products (Veeam, Unitrends etc)

It is very difficult to find real world reviews and opinions so I'd be really grateful to hear you thoughts and experiences.

I love the TSM product, but have never worked with the VE add-on. It is this part that is of interest to me.

Thanks in advance

TBMR backups and databases

Good morning - I am new here, and have a quick question. We currently use tdp for restoring our SQL backups to the server, but we also take TBMR backups weekly of these servers. Will TBMR backup active database files or is it strictly for OS/Server level file recovery and then would need to use a tool like TDP to restore the database once the server is up and running?

Thanks in advance for the help.
