NDMP backup failed with ANR4950E

Our NDMP remote backup was working fine until 6 months ago for one particular FileSystem data01 (4.3TB) . We backup the NAS shares to a remote Datadomain appliance(disk) and it failed for 1 out of 10 NAS shares, Local backup of data01 to an IBM ATL(cartridge) works fine.

ANR4950E The server is unable to retrieve NDMP file
history information while building table of contents for
node nas_server, file space /root_vdm_3/data01.
NDMP node ID is 10667038. Table of contents creation fails.
ANR0171I dbiconn.c(1956): Error detected on 0:138,
database in evaluation mode. (SESSION: 481333, PROCESS:

After countless logs sent to IBM, They came back with two APAR's which doesn't work . We previously tested both APARS and told IBM but they still went ahead and published both APARS.

Schduler issue

Hello...
I need some scheduler advices

have tdp-sql backup of db and logs

full db backup from 5 pm to 9 pm
log backup every hour
due to that in TSM every node can only execute 1 sched-event at the time all log
backup are missed between 5 to 9 hov should sched look like in order to schedule
every hour exept for time for full db backup?

Full VM backup problem with error code ANS9351E

Hello all,

I'm trying to implement Full VM Incremental Forever backup of VMware 5.1 virtual machines.
I'm scheduling a script which invoke a command such as dsmc backup vm...
First time it runs fine, but from 5 days ago I'm getting the following message:

TSM session issue

Hi - Hoping for some help here, always had good luck with the experts here.

Recently I've had scheduled backups failing, continuing to see
ANS1351E Session rejected: All server sessionsare currently in use ,

I've increased MAXSESSIONS and MAXSCHEDSESSIONS options several times and the root cause seems to be clients taking up multiple sessions and im not talking 2 , I'm seeing 5, 10 even 20 sessions from some servers that i would expect to see 1-2? I've got only 2 or 3 servers with MAXNUMP set to higher then 1

I've tried upgrading to 6.4, it didnt help, I've got about 160 clients and around 150TB with 2-3TB a night of new data in.

At first i thought it might have been reclaimation processes holding up disk migrations to tape causing clients to back up on one another but i've also seen it occur with no processes running.

The other strange thing im noticing is the server seems to keep booting me out of rdp when i'm looking at it at night during the backup window. Its intermittent. Is there any chance the server is having network overload and the clients are starting new sessions to compensate?

Any ideas would be welcome, thanks!

TSM communication protocol

Hi experts, need an advice. From infocenter I know tcp/ip is the default protocol. However, I also find out TSM support named pipes and sharedmem options as well. I would like to find out under what scenario we have name pipes/sharedmem, its advantages and disadvantages, thanks.

HP VTL (VLS-9000) and TSM 5.5.7 destroyed tape

Hi,

We are using HP VLS 9000 and TSM 5.5.7 combo.

The TSM shows some tapes for destroyed:

12/09/2013 09:56:27 ANR1424W Read access denied for volume xxxx - volume
access mode="destroyed". (PROCESS: 3615)
12/09/2013 10:30:23 ANR1229W Volume xxxx cannot be backed up to a copy
storage pool or copied to an active-data storage pool.
The volume is offline, in use by another process, not
currently mountable, or access mode is "unavailable" or
"destroyed". (SESSION: 770194)

It's ok for real tape library, but not for virtual. :confused:

Do you have any idea about root cause of problem and how to solve?

Issues with two VM's with W2000

Hi guys, I'm having several issues with two W2000 VM's (I know that is out of support) but I wanted to exclude them from daily backup operations from my daily VM backups.
I was reading a little bit about these kind of backups over TSM and I found a way to exclude them:

Every day the VM backups are running using this command into a schedule:

DSMC BACKUP Vm -optfilE=dsm_dm1.opt vmhost=(name of vm host) -mode=incre -vmmc=MC_VE_S

Additionally I added next option into the schedule:
-domain.vmfull="all-vm;-vm=(vm_name to be excluded)"

I cannot understand the difference between domin.full and domain.file (is it necessary exclude the hosts from both?)

I would appreciate any help regarding this matter, because I want to exclude this in in order to avoid more compatibility problems.

Move active/archive logs on a TSM 6.2 server

Hello all,

I have a 6.2 server which, when built, had the active and archive logs put on the same filesystem as the database. The filesystem for those logs is available, and empty. I just need to move the logs to the new location. The process for moving those logs seems to be documented here:

That process for moving the active logs states that, basically, all you have to do is update the dsmserv.opt, restart the TSM server, and the TSM server will take care of copying the logs from the old location to the new location. Has anyone ever seen that process work?

I found another process which talks about what to do in case your log directory fills up and you're forced to move your logs from one directory to another. That process asks you to do some additional steps, to include running a db2 update command:

Is moving the active logs really as simple as just pointing to a new directory in the dsmserv.opt file and restarting TSM?

How does expiration really work?

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me how expiration woks when you're running it from a daily administrative schedule, and you're letting expiration pick/choose which nodes to work on? For example, I have this process set to run for 4 hours daily, with 7 resources. That process runs successfully daily, but I have no way of knowing which nodes it plans on hitting. When you run expiration in this way, does it automatically start with those nodes/filespaces with the most files? Or perhaps those nodes/filespaces with the most data?

I have a few nodes in this environment with millions and millions of files to go through, so I think what's happening is TSM is spending most of its daily alloted expiration time working on those nodes, and it never gets to the nodes with bigger filesystems and a smaller number of files. As a result, I discovered this weekend that I had a LOT of data out there on some larger filespaces which needed to be expired. I'm just wondering if I should come up with a new strategy for expiration on this server, or perhaps I should let that process run for longer than 4 hours every day?

ANR8944E - Error Number=5, ASC=EE, ASCQ=0f

Hello All,

I wished there was a good place out there to get real descriptions on all the various codes you can get with ANR8944E messages! I have noticed that every once in a while, I'll see a large group of primary tapes go UNAVAILABLE. The activity log shows the following:

I have seen some information on the web similar to this code, but with an Error Number=13. I don't find anything with an Error Number=5.

This is a TSM 6.3 server with three LTO5 tape drives. I have two TKLM servers, version 2.0. I just ran key path diagnostics from my tape library, and it was able to communicate with both the primary and secondary TKLM servers just fine. When this issue comes up, it usually affects a large number of tapes in a short period of time, but these tapes have been in use for a while. I'm suspecting that this has something to do with TKLM, but I'm not sure what it is. Perhaps my TKLM servers went unavailable for a short while.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomes!

Hi everybody,

We try to connect both TSM server for that we do

on TSM_SERVER1

DEFINE SERVER TSMSERVER2 SERVERPASSWORD=password> HLADDRESS=Ip LLADDRESS=port_tcp/ip

on TSMSERVER2

DEFINE SERVER TSM_SERVER1 SERVERPASSWORD=password> HLADDRESS=Ip LLADDRESS=port_tcp/ip

On the two server the admin and his password was the same

But when we try to ping server server1 on the 2 and vice-versa that not working
when we try on TSM_SERVER1

We have

Filespace delete

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any information regarding the behaviour of filespace deletion - i.e. if I have several filespaces (specifically, they contain Centera defined volumes), and I want to delete these filespaces - will the operation physically delete the data from the target storage? In this particular instance, I'd like to remove the filespace references from the database but leave the Centera volumes untouched.

Or, is there any other mechanism available to achieve the same outcome?

TSM v6.3.3 in use.

Any input appreciated!

Question password TSM FASTBACK

Hi everybody it's always me (don't hate me :) )

I have a little problem with tsm fastback.

I installed a 6.1.3.5 version of TSM fastback i configured him with the adress of my tsm server.
In the TSM server i add the node corresponding to the computer i create him a pasword..

In the parametre of distant storage i put the tsm ip adress, he ask me password its ok

THe problem was when i add a new folder to save he ask me password and when he ty to save he ask me one more the password...

It's normal ?
When i don't touch the pc sometimes he ask me the pass.
After that the file was save but the lot of asking password was nervous if i install this to client and he was be harassed by the lot of password ask
