Hello
My boss ask me to provide Disaster Recovery plan for our TSM server. It's TSM server extended edition 6.4 installed on windows 2008 R2. I have an ibm TS3100 attached. I know that in case of disaster i should reinstall the Operating system, followed by TSM soft then the Database.

Can someone please provide a detailed procedure i can follow to achieve this ?

V7000 Unified & Client workarounds

Hi All,
Due to the TSM client integration in the Unifed storage there is very limited functionality. To restore individual filesystem files you are required to provide the exact location of the file specifying the full path, in the correct case. This is going to be painfully difficult with some of the large file systems we have.

It would seem IBM includes the full features of the client, albeit 'hidden under the covers'. I am trying to configure the CAD by logging into the Unified using putty & editing the DSM.SYS.
The CAD service does start, but I am unable to access via a web browser.

Has anyone else tried this....and had success?

Thanks,

Hi folks!

When start the incremental backup in Linux Server (Debian 2.6.18-348.6.1.el5) happend errors. The folder "public_html" inside /home users not have include in backup. Because the folder "public_html" is a mounted unit in server, I suspect the problem may be here.

Any idea

Parameters "ACTIVE/ARCHIVE LOGS PATH" don't work in DSMSERV.OPT

Hello!

Somebody help me please!!!

I have a TSM 6.2 environment running under MS WINDOWS 2008 R2 server. Well, into the DSMSERV.OPT file I has defined the
ACTIVE/ARCHIVE LOGS PATH parameters this way...

activelogdir c:\tsm\tsmlog
archivelogdir c:\tsm\tsmarchlog

But, I do not know why TSM ignores these parameters specified in the file DSMSERV.OPT, redirecting the archive/active logs files to another disk drive (D:\).

TSM> q log f=d

Total Space(MB): 40,800
Used Space(MB): 300.00
Free Space(MB): 40,500
Active Log Directory: D:\TSM\tsmlog
Archive Log Directory: D:\TSM\tsmarchlog
:

:

I followed the instructions in these links ...

MOVING ARCHIVE LOGS.
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.itsm.srv.doc%2Ft_move_a rchive_logs.html

MOVING ACTIVE LOGS.
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.itsm.srv.doc%2Ft_move_a ctive_logs.html

but these procedures does not work for me, TSM always ignores both parameters into the dsmserv.opt file.

Thanks in advance.

New Library Manager marks ownership of a scratch tape for itself

Hi,
I am in the process of commisioning a new library manager with an ACSLS Library. I have completed the first checkin and sent a backup and migration onto one of the new Tapes. When this completed I noted that the Library manager has taken a whole tape for itself. Does anyone know why this has happened, as it looks like a waste of an Ultrium 6 Tape?

Library Name Volume Name Status Owner Last Use
XXX_XXXXX XX0000 Private <xxxxx>01_-LIBM
XXX_XXXXX XX0001 Private <xxxxx>01 Data
XXX_XXXXX XX0002 Scratch

From the log:
08/04/14 11:33:26 ANR8778W Scratch volume XX0000 changed to Private Status
to prevent re-access. (SESSION: 25)

Many Thanks for any help.

TSM 6.1.3 migration - TS3200 library problem

Hi, I'm very new to TSM and need some help from you TSM expert
I migrated my TSM server 6.1.3 from win2k3r2 x86 to win2k8r2 x64 using a DB snapshot backup and restore.
I restored the DB in the new server all seem fine but when I try to do a backup it always time out waiting for the tape/library with error (ANS1312E Server media mount not possible)
I restored the devconfig and volhistory file along with dsmserv.opt and baclient DSM.opt
I installed the w2k8 driver (IBMTape.x64_w08_6241_WHQL_Cert) with the install_exclusive.exe
Windows detect the tape drive and library ok in device manager but tsm doesnt.
I found a post in these forum that state TSM is not supposed to detect generic drive and I'm suspecting this might be my problem, I searched around for an older driver for windows 2008r2 but couldn't find any.
I'm also attaching a screenshot of my device manager.
here is the output of my drive query

My daily TSM report a lot of error similar to this one for the library:
Code:

and also these kind of error for the tape drive:
Code:

2014-04-08-16.11    ANR8381E    LTO volume LVL047L4 could not be mounted in drive DRIVE1 (\\.\Tape0). (SESSION: 52)

I went into TSM manement console and ran the device wizard and it's only then that the mt4.0.0.3 drive started appearing. How do I point tsm to use these drive instead of the old one that are named \\.\Tape0 ?

It's the first time I play with a tape library and I'm clueless.

Restore window is empty

Hello Everyone, I have an issue, I really don't know the exact issue with TDP, I have a tdp client for daily & monthly backup. All the monthly backups are first written to disk then migrated to tape and sent to offsite...(no copy pool) just one copy we maintain. Daily backup are working fine, I can see the files is restore window as well, but when I checked the monthly backup to do a restore, I cannot find a single file in the restore window. I check query nodedata nodename...I saw some paths were backed up , but nothing is visible. I thought it could be because of the client shortcut, so I deleted and updated the option file in the properties box. I have tried all the option file versions that we have for the monthly backup, still I cannot view any data in to it. When I ran the manual backup, I found an error which is in the attachment. This I what I found NOTES.RIP "

Need To Move Node Data From DataDomain to CIFS Share

Hello,

Does anyone know the best method to get some node's backup data onto an external drive?

TSM v 6.3.4.2 on DataDomain VTL.

Storage admin recommended doing a CIFS Share, but I wasn't sure how to configure this on the TSM side. Would greatly appreciate any advice.

Customer is requesting to have their data shipped to them on removable media.

Thanks!!

Maintenance Script - which processes can or can´t run parallel

$

Hi,

I have troubles with a maintenance script that the 24 hours are not enough. In the maintenance script I used the parallel option, but some processes need many hours and so the maintenance script runs very often over 24 hours.

Can any one tell me which processes should never run parallel and which processes can run in parallel?

At the moment my maintenance script looks like this:

SERIAL
PARALLEL
backup stgpool filepool copypool1 maxpr=3 w=y
backup stgpool diskpool copypool2 maxpr=2 w=y
SERIAL
PARALLEL
....
....
SERIAL
backup db type=full devc=ltoclass w=y
delete volhist type=dbb todate=today-5
backup volhist
backup devconfig
....
....

So my question is which processes for example can run parallel to the backup stgpool -> copypool. Can I run a migration parallel?
Which processes can run parallel to an expire inventory and so on.

Are there any documents from IBM or recommendations?

I found one document from IBM but there I can´t find any information about which processes can run parallel

Thank you in advance.

Hi, I just migrated my TSM sever from windows 2003 to windows 2008r2 by restoring the DB on the new server but now the vmware backup won't work. When I go into the BA client GUI and use the backup VM option I receive an error message to check TSM error log. I back everything using FC card to TS3200 library.

Code:

04/11/2014 16:51:46 ANS9365E VMware vStorage API error for virtual machine 'unavailable'.

  TSM file          : vmvisdk.cpp (1733)

Detail:

My DSM.opt
Code:

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS VSS
SUBFILEBACKUP YES
SUBFILECACHEPATH E:\tsmdata\subfilecache

The user MyDomain\vcbadm is member of the local administrator group on the server, I entered the password for the VMhost in the client preference but it didn't change the result. I googled the ans# error and IBM talk about installing Vmware consolidated backup + TSM integration so I did but it didn't fix my problem. Do I need to install this in TSM 6.1.3 Server using vsphere 5.0 ?

any pointer as to which username /password isn't working would be appreciated.

TSM Client Packed for Ubuntu Linux 64bits

Hi all!

I just packed the TSM cliente v7.1.0 for ubuntu 64bits and made an install script for it (thanks for "The Open Systems Group" from the University of Florida - https://open-systems.ufl.edu/ubuntu_client). I’d like to make it available to others, so it could be tested on diferente environments. By now, it’s available through sendspace (http://www.sendspace.com/file/2um726), but I want to share it in a better repository, so I’m taking suggestions and offers to host my solution.

At this moment, there are only the BA and the API packed (and the gsk* needed to install them), but I can convert the other packages, update my install script and make them available in the future. The process to convert the RPMs in DEBs is very simple and I think my script is very clear to understand and update, so feel free to do it yourselves if you wish! If someone is not sure about how to build the other packages and/or update the script, tell me and, if I have the time, I will do it for you. If I don’t have, I’ll let you know…

I actually don’t have the need to backup any files on Ubuntu machines. I did this because I needed to use the administrative command line under my Ubuntu Linux desktop to manage my TSM server. It worked very well to me, so I thought I should share my solution with the community.

Ultimately, all I wish is to be helpfull and make the use of the TSM client on Ubuntu (and derivatives) easier for everyone who needs it!

Hope it helped and thanks for your time!

Unfortunately I cannot write into the pool, as it breaks up with a inssuficient space warning.

How I did it:
DEFINE DEVCLASS DEV_NEO LIBRARY=LIB_NEO DEVTYPE=LTO FORMAT=DRIVE PREFIX=ADSM MOUNTRETENTION=1 MOUNTWAIT=10 MOUNTLIMIT=DRIVES
DEFINE STGPOOL STG_NEO DEV_NEO POOLTYPE=PRIMARY DESCRIPTION='Overland Neo2000e' ACCESS=READWRITE CRCDATA=NO HIGHMIG=90 LOWMIG=70 RECLAIM=50 RECLAIMPROCESS=1 RECLAMATIONTYPE=THRESHOLD MAXSCRATCH=27 REUSEDELAY=0

checkin libvolume LIB_NEO search=yes status=scratch checklabel=barcode

When i do q stg I cannot see any estimated capacity - why?

Include Exclude Dir - Help

Good morning guys,

I have a folder called "Archive", inside this folder there is hundreds of folders.

Need to backup only one folder, "\Archive\NotesFuncional".

Read about the parameters include and exclude and did the following:

EXCLUDE "E:\archive\[a-z]:\...\*"
EXCLUDE "F:\archive2\[a-z]:\...\*"
INCLUDE "E:\archive\NotesFuncional\...\*"
INCLUDE "F:\archive2\NotesFuncional\...\*"

But it's not working, the schedule takes the complete directory "\archive".

Any idea?

I thank you.

Can't delete a filespace

I’m baffled by this one but I suspect I’m just missing something obvious.

We have a server named ESTREAMC. I am trying to delete one of the filespaces associated with this server via the CLI but I can’t get it to work.

I issue the command:

q fi ESTREAMC

and, sure enough, among others, the F: drive/filespace appears:

ESTREAMC \\estreamc\f$ WinNT NTFS (etc).

but when I try to delete it:

del fi ESTREAMC \\estreamc\f$ TYPE=ANY

I get the following error message:

ANR0852E DELETE FILESPACE: No matching file spaces found for node ESTREAMC.
ANS8001I Return code 11.

Any suggestions please?

Good morning guys,

In TSM there some kind of console that shows which file is being backed up a certain schedule??

PS: I use the same TSM console ("C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsmadmc.exe"-console), but it does not show me.
