Information on TSM-DR and the DR550

I've looked around and this seems to be the closest place to file the question in , so here goes.

We have a DR550, the components are P520 running AIX and TSM DR (data recovery) and the data is stored on FASTT dasd.
This product is 9 years old and we are migrating away from the DR550 , in fact we (really consultants) are rewritting the entire application.
We don't know what hardware we are moving to so specifics are in short supply.

Is there something that will copy, not move, the data from the DR550 to something other piece of hardware that would be software agnostic but still permit us WORM capability like the DR550? I know we will need to move to something that is CAS as this appears to give us the WORM capability, but that is just research I have done.

Next question and probably the most important. Since it is the P520 with TSM-DR running , in front of the FASTT, could we remove the P520 from the equation and copy the data from the FASTT to whatever and then put something in front of the new dasd? Does TSM-DR put some kind of 'flag' on the data so this options is a no go?

I know there are TSM versions for windows but in my research I can only find TSM-EE not TSM-DR does anyone on this forum know of such a product?

We have very little TSM knowledge here and this is why I am asking such an open ended question.

Migration from TSM Server 6.3.4 (Win2008R2) to 7.1 (Win2008R2 - new system)

Hello everybody :D
I'm new in adsm and this is my first post!


I've been working with a TSM 6.3.4 Server installed on Windows 2008 R2, but now I need to migrate it to TSM 7.1 in a new server. There is documentation only for migration from TSM 5.x to 6.2 then to 7.1 in another OS, or upgrade from TSM 6.3 to 7.1 in the same server but I need it in a new one.


I guess the approach should be a migration then an upgrade.


What steps would you suggest?

Problem restoring TSM database after move to new server

Hi

I am running TSM 6.1 on Linux.

Before moving TSM to a new server, we issued a BACKUP DB to LTO5. One of my guys also copied the whole tsminst1 directory (with database/, actlog/, archlog/, and so on....), but not the sqllib directory. The sqllib dir is now no longer available.

When I try to do a restore on the new server (dsmserv restore db after supplying the relevant dsmserv.opt, volhist.dat and device data file), the system looks for two DBV volumes in my file pool, that just don't exist. A database backup exists on one of my LTO5 volumes, but seems to be partial. It doesn't look like I will be able to do a "dsmserve restore db"?

What is in the sqllib dir vs. the tsminst1/database dir?

Can I perhaps still save the situation with the content in the tsminst1/database dir?

Any help and advice would be really appreciated!
(We have just lost a disk on one of our application servers and need to restore :-( )

The two question are:
1. BACKUPPOOL is always Pct Ultil 100.0, and my boss says it must start migration on 90.0, and been 100.0 is not normal.
2. He also says that this empty LTOs must be in use.

Upgrade TSM 5.5 to 6.2

Hi,

Can anybody get me some step to step procedure to upgrade the TSM server from 5.5.5.0 to 6.2 in windows 2003 server?

We have issue that the DB has reached to 95% utilization and we have almost reached the 500 GB size database.

Hi Guys.

I keep on getting this error in exchange servers just before the backup starts. I am currently using TSM code v6.3.0.0 for both baclient and tdpexchange.
"Event Description: Service or driver failed to start - The TSM Remote Client Agent service terminated with the following error: %%-1"

I/O error when no tape in drive

Hi

I have been getting a series of I/O errors with TSM 6.1.2 and an IBM LTO5 drive.

I use lin_tape 2.5.

After doing some lin_tape debugging, I have found that the I/O errors occur whenever TSM tries to access the drive, and there is no tape in the drive.

The lin_tape error codes mean no medium found...

If I move a tape into the drive, TSM happily interacts with the drive - no I/O errors.

Has anyone come across something similar?

Hardware or media error on drive - Error number = 23

Hi there,


I hope I am posting this at the right place.


I'm encountering an issue with one of the drive of my tape library.
The drive will loads the tape but TSM would still say it is waiting for mount of input volume.


When I do "q actlog", it is giving me an error below.
The drive has already been replaced with a new one since the problem occured.
I have tried with other process and other tapes and same problem would occur when that particular drive is used.
Same tape volume would work on other drives.


Can someone please give me some feedbacks on what might cause this issue?

How do I remove a phantom tape ?

Server OS - AIX 7.1
TSM ver - 6.3.3
Library - STK L700 (LTO-2)
SNAFU - Tape showing up in Q LIBV but not really in library ...

I'm trying to export all our archives off LTO-2 media (using L700 library above) and onto LTO-5 media. I decided to completely empty my library to make room for all the tapes I need to check in. I used the "checkout libv <library name> voll=x,x,x,x checklabel=no" to remove tapes 40 at a time until the library was empty. I opened the library and validated that all 618 slots are empty. I also verified that no tapes are in any of the drives (16). However .... When I run a q libv l700, I get the following results ...

I could care less what is on this volume as this library hasn't been used in 1.5 years. Our retention policies won't require us to retain any data from this volume.

This tape is not in our library. In fact, I can't even find the tape. The easy fix would be to put the tape in the slot, check it out and press on with my day, but that's not possible. I tried running an audit on the library, but I get the following message ...

I was under the impression that an audit would true up the library database with the TSM database. TSM insists the tape is in the slot and it's not. Has anybody else seen this? If so, what was the fix?

FastBack for Workstations 6.3.0 - Client Error - Access is denied (cmd.exe)

Hello,

I'm new configuring TSM Fastback (IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for Workstations 6.3.0) and I need some help. Everything goes right until I start backup process on Clients, all is normal in the server and backup is perfect, but... on Clients a message keep showing, as you can see above:

I have tried set all permissions on Client and configuration on Server (all that I know, please tell me more options!), but this windows keep flashing (so fast and each time) on Clients desktop until backup is over. Many have claimed that this disturb their work, because the focus on Windows changes :(

Please help me! I'm in the middle of an project and this is very important.

Hi All

I have got the issue with information below:
When I try add array manger on srm return the follow:

Unable to add array manager.

SRA command 'discoverArrays' failed. Invalid Array ID.
Refer to IBM SAN Volume Controller troubleshooting.

ADMIN_CENTER frequency...

How can I tell the ADMIN_CENTER to poll the TSM Server less frequently than every 5 minutes? I rarely use it and don't need it to be updated EVERY 5 minutes!! I'm tired of it getting in my way in the ACTLOG! Anyone have any thoughts? {TSM Server 6.2.3 running on an AIX Server running AIX7.1} thanks everyone!

Communications lost.... (ANS1029E)

​Hi everyone, We have an AIX (5.3) client that is all-of-a-sudden, throwing​ a "ANS1029E Communication with the TSM server is lost" error about 90% of the way thru its backup. It's been running flawlessly for 4+ years and now it's failing. Never the same exact time of day, amount of data sent, etc... No real correlation other than it *may* be failing at the same place in the backup, in the same filesystem each time. AND it is failing only on Friday's (that is when the files in question are being backed-up, created the day before) What about a specific file could cause that error? There are NO other errors to speak-of in the actlog or the dsmsched.log. NOTHING ELSE out-of-the-ordinary. Thoughts?


{We are running TSM Server 6.2.3, that is running on an AIX Server running AIX7.1.}

Restore Archive Backup

Hi everybody,

Last Friday I did a Archive backup with the web client to my TSM server . Today when I try to retrieve something to this server the entry doesn't appear on the TSM Client.

Should be the entry with the date 4/4/2014 right?
In the Operational Reports there is the job that has been launched and have status Clomplet Successful.

What is the procedure to retrive something to this backup?

Backing Up Large Compressed files to tape (End of Tape)

Hi
I am backing up large compressed files , 700-800GB. to LTO5 Tape. I get 0 hardware compression. I have set the Est Capacity to 1.4TB but TSM still tries to send a 800GB File to a tape that has almost a TB on it. It then reaches EOT (End of Tape) and starts all over on a scratch tape. What am I missing, or what are my options. How do I avoid the end of tape situations since the failed attempts easily waste 3+ hours of drive time.

Files three times backed up on TSM (next© stgpools mismatch)

Hi,

we have following setup on one of our nodes:

Code:
Primary_pool -------> Copy_pool_A
|
|
V
Next_pool --------> Copy_pool_B
The bottom line is that amount of data in Next_pool and copy_pool_B equals, but data in copy_pool_A are growing way above amount of data in Primary_pool. Obviously copy_pool_A keeps also data that were migrated to Next_pool. And thus these data are backed up three times, in: copy_pool_A, Next_pool, copy_pool_B.

Do I understand the situation correctly? How to make sure copy_pool_A keeps only data that are currently in Primary_pool?
