NDMP backup historic limit

$

Hi,

I vaguely remember when backing up different CIFS shares using NDMP there was a limitation from the N-Series side where only 2 backups can run concurrently and if a third was initiated it would fail. I have had a quick Google & cannot find any reference to this.

This was a N5200, ontap version 7.2. backing up to tsm 5.5

Does anybody know if this is still an issue & better still, what was the reason/cause for the limit?

Thank you.

Hi All,

My query is regarding the data rention management when a TSM client is migrated from 1 TSM server to a new TSM server. How the file retention is maintained. For example,if a file is backed up on TSM server 1 and is elegible to retain for one year. After 6 months,client is migrated to new TSM sevrer.In such case,how the data retention is managed?
Thanks in advance.

Recovering TKLM Server at Disaster Recovery

$

TKLM 2.0.1
AIX 6.1
IBM 3584 Tape Library
LTO-4 Drives

Sitting at my desk after day two of our Disaster Recovery exercise. This is the first exercise in which we attempted to use TKLM to read our encrypted media. We recovered our TKLM server from a mksysb image early on in the exercise. Even though the TKLM application server started, it wasn't truly functional. We kept receiving DB2 errors.

We still had our old EKM instance running on one of our AIX servers, so we simply pointed our library at that, and continued on with the exercise.

Now, I opened a PMR with IBM, and they told me that it is not possible to recover TKLM with a mksysb image (I'm certain I did so before we went production back in December). Per IBM, the proper procedure for the recovery of a TKLM server in a Disaster Recovery scenario is to sit down and install the software (DB2, TIP, the whole kit and caboodle) from scratch, and then recover a backup of the TKLM DB to the installed instance.

Obviously, I will do this if it is the only way, but it seems like an incredible hassle (and a major step backwards from the pure joy and simplicity of EKM). Does anyone else find themselves building their TKLM servers from scratch at DR? Have you found any useful short-cuts, or some other solutions for backing up and restoring the solution en todo? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! - Mikeymac

Database is offline

I've installed TSM server 6.3.4.300 (on windows platform) and (on another windows box) TSM BA Client 7.1.0.2 and TDP for MSSQL 7.1.0.0.

Now I cannot backup any database from MSSQL 2012 with command line interface: when I run command 'tdpsqlc.exe backup MyDB full /BACKUPMETHod=VSS', I receive error message: 'ACO5958W The selected database <MyDB> is offline -- skipping.'. This happens with any database - model, model, msdb. But databases is ONLINE, I'm sure!

When I use TDP MMC console, VSS backups those DBs are successful:

Backup with method 'LEGACY' is successful in any case - command line or TDP MMC console.

Anybody can help me?

Expiration - amount of data that was expired

I am running TSM 5 and would like to know if there is a way to see how much data (GB/TB) is being expired on a daily basis. I now how to extract the total number of files but have not seen anything with the total size of data expired.

I would use this information to compare how much data is being backed up each night to how much is being expired so I can get a better picture of data growth within the library.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello Everyone

I want to setup a primary disk pool , and a secondary tape pool . The disk pool will hold the data backup for 7 days. The Tape pool will hold the data for 30 days.

Normally i would only setup the primary disk pool to migrate to tape after 7 days. But customer require that the tape hold all the recent data of 30 days.

What is the best way to archive this requirements ?

which TSM processes cannot run at the same time

Hi,

is there any documentation of IBM that states which processes can not/must not run at the same time?
For example migration and reclamation of the same stg pool.
We see deadlocks from time to time and want to avoid that.

Any information or hints would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi guys!
* TSM server version 6.3.4
* Ibm Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager 4.1.0.0
* TSM Backup Archive 7.1.0.2
* IBM tivoli storage manager for Exchange Version 7.1

We do FULL backups once a week and then incremental.
The next time we run FULL backup it does not deletes the previous incremental backups.
How could we achieve that?

tdpexcc backup * full /backupdestination=TSM /tsmoptfile=dsm.opt /logfile=excsch.log >> EXCHANGE-BACKUP-FULL.log

Every hour schedule from N to M

$

Hello!

I need create a schedule that run every half hour, but only from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Only one thing in my mind: define several schedules and repeat them every day, i.e:

def sched DOM RunAt0900 ... starttime=09:00 peri=1 peru=day
def sched DOM RunAt0930 ... starttime=09:30 peri=1 peru=day
...
def sched DOM RunAt1730 ... starttime=17:30 peri=1 peru=day
def sched DOM RunAt1800 ... starttime=18:00 peri=1 peru=day

But this way don't like me: when I add or remove new client, I must define (or undefine) associations many times. Is here other ways?

V7000 Unified - file backup

Hi All,
We are backing up v7000 unified file system. No matter what syntax we try we are unable to exclude two files.

ANE4987E Error processing '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microso ft\Boot\BCD': the object is in use by another process
ANE4987E Error processing '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microso ft\Boot\BCD.LOG': the object is in use by another process

As you can see from the following, we have tried various flavours of exclude... (More were added out of frustration rather than logic)
exclude *\...\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BC D.LOG
exclude *\...\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BC D
exclude
\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microsof t\Boot\BCD.LOG
exclude
\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Microsof t\Boot\BCD
exclude *:\...\...\...\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD.LOG
exclude '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2
\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD'

A bit of searching found a similar condition, but with no solution: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docvie...id=swg21666427
I think the option maybe to set snapshotproviderFS VSS

I would appreciate any advice people may have.

Thank you.

Netware retrieve - unable to re-direct to another location

$

Hi all,
I am trying to retrieve archived files for a Netware client (the original client machine has long been decommissioned).
The TSM Server is Windows Vn. 5.5.2.0 and the Netware Client was also Vn. 5.5.2.0.

Installed the TSM server Vn. as above on another machine here and restored the TSM database from the time I need ...

Although, we no longer run Netware servers I have been provisioned a VM Netware machine for historical restore/retrieve purposes - on which I have installed the necessary client.
I can select the files required through the TSM Backup/Archive GUI - using I.E. http://servername:1583/baclient ...
However, when I try to redirect the retrieve to another location on the the VM Netware server all I see is ...
Original Nodename \ Local \ newservername-uk:\NDS

TSM Capture.PNG
I was hoping to see ...
Original Nodename \ Local \ newservername-uk:\Restore (this is a compressed volume to allow restores/retrieves)
There no drives under Network or Removable.

I have looked and can't find a resolution I think it's a Netware issue - but our Netware peeps think it's TSM.

Can anyone throw me a lifeline as I need to get the retrieve done asap - there are no out of the ordinary msgs in the Actlog.

Database Restore Fails (Help Appreciated)

$

Dear all,

I recently successfully upgraded to tsm 6.3.4 and now trying to test the recoverability of the Database on another Server for DR.
Below is what I have done so far…….
I built a new Server as an exact mirror of the Live Server but with a different name and went through the configuration wizard and configured the Sever Instance.

I modified the devcfg file to do the DB restore as I only had a manual library to restore from and I am getting an error message when I issued the db restore command.

“dsmserv RESTORE DB TODATE=03/26/2014”

“ANR4592I Restore database backup series 2015 includes eligible operation 0 with
volume BR0124 having sequence 10001 and using device class LTO.
ANR4598I Validating database backup information for selected backup series 2015
and operation 0 using volume BR0124.
ANR4615E The server is unable to restore the database due to inaccessible
media.
ANR4578E Database backup/restore terminated - required volume was not mounted.
ANR1794W TSM SAN discovery is disabled by options.

I would appreciate any pointers as to where I have gone wrong in this this exercise or if there a better way to do this…..

Many Thanks
Richard
